SLFP General Secretary and Minister Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said the Sri Lankan government had implicit faith in the Indian central government and would continue to maintain close ties with them despite the current situation in Tamil Nadu.
“No matter what transpired in Tamil Nadu, we are maintaining close ties with the Indian central government, which constantly comes under pressure from the Tamil Nadu government,” the Minister said addressing a press conference in Colombo.
He said those in power and in the opposition in Tamil Nadu wanted to stay in politics and as a result they were pointing fingers at Sri Lanka so as to divert attention. “The current Tamil Nadu government is losing their popularity in many ways mainly due to ten-hour power cuts in the state. The people of Tamil Nadu are fed up with the current Tamil Nadu government because of that,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on the recent attacks on Muslims, the Minister said steps would be taken for those events not to recur.
Minister Sirisena warned that some groups were trying to create communal problems between the Sinhalese and the Muslims in the country and requested the people not to fall pray to them.
Addressing a press conference, the Minister said tough legal action would be taken against those individuals or groups who were trying to make divisions between the Sinhalese and the Muslims. “There were a series of incidents reported in the recent past of properties belonging to Muslims being attacked. As a government we cannot accept such things; we are strongly condemning them,” the Minister said. (Dayana Udayangani)

No matter what happened in Tamil Nadu, the US will make sure that the war criminals are prosecuted. That is not because they love Tamils but because the Rajapakse's are complete liabilities in the fight against China. They will not let the lame duck Congress to carry on with this farce.
