Suspension on ‘Vishwaroopam’ removed in SL

E-mail Print

The temporary suspension on Indian actor Kamala Hassan’s controversial film ‘Vishwaroopam’ has been lifted by the Sri Lanka Public Performance Board after editing two scenes in the film.

A government official however said that the decision to lift the ban now remained with the government.

SLPPB Chairman Gamini Sumanasekera told Daily Mirror online that the Board only removed two scenes in the film without damaging the content of the film. “We have already given the green light to screen the film in Sri Lanka after editing two scenes,” he said.

Last week, the government said the screening of the film in Sri Lankan was suspended, claiming the film’s potentially damaging nature to racial harmony in the country.

This movie about Afghanistan and terror. This is supporting American activities. This is not neutral movie. One side. Not recommendable movie. Better ban this movie in Sri Lanka. Movie for entertainment, not for mis-leading the society with wrong information. For money, they will do any thing for any body. What good world is this.

This is a free country... people have the right to watch a good movie. If you don't like it, don't watch it... but don't try to deny someone else the chance of watching it.

I'm not a fan of watching Indian films, but I will watch this movie in support of freedom of expression

Ban this film? haven't you heard of torrents?

Movies are normally reflections of ground realities.

USA and India are hellbent on punishing Sri Lanka, for overcoming terrorism.

I don't understand why our VIPs keep licking their boots despite being kicked so many times on the face.

My dear friends, it is very wrong to make a negative comment of a movie without watching it. And as a fan of Kamal Hassan I know about him. He is an atheist and I'm sure he won't make a movie against the Muslim community. In 1992, When Babri mosque was demolished he was the first celebrity to protest it and support Muslims.

A movie in a civilized society is not going to harm anyone, and I look at it that way.
So please do not relate this to racial disharmony or anything like that.

Watched this movie & nothing seems to be disturbing anyone. it should have been the USA who could have easily banned this movie for some scenes concerning their former president. But we all know Americans will surely must have learn something new from this movie. Kamal is indeed a International Hero
