Having one is not suspicious..but both? I am not a cynic to think that bright students cannot come from hambantota but for the two top students to come from that school defies odds.

With all due respect to the two students, I don’t think this is real. Does the government think we are fools? This country is becoming a joke because of our politicians.….. There should be a limit to any madness. Enough is enough. Stop playing with innocent people of this country……

I should inform all of a result I came to know this morning. One student in a Colombo suburb has 3 Bs, District rank of 20, Island rank of 96,Z score of 0.8666. Another student in Colombo has 2As and 1 B, District rank of 29, Island rank of 129 and Z score of 1.078. Both in the same stream. Isn't this computer "jilmart"?

-0+10 # Hurahh ! 2013-01-31 13:20
Also, the cut off marks to Uni from out station schools are lower than for Colombo Schools ya? How do you justify this when the top rankers come from a vertually unknown school in Weerakatiya?
Reply

-0+10 # Iver 2013-01-31 13:45
Mathematically this can be happened in one given situation where the one who got 3 Bs had got his or her grades near to A for each subject and the one who got 2 As and a B got his or her scores at minimum for 2 As and minimum for B as well .
3Bs - 74 X 3 = 222
2As and B = 75 X 2 + 65 = 215
Despite the fact that difference and the probability, this should be the only way that could happen for such change in results.

it is very strange but then if someone wanted to manipulate the result to show that a certain area is highly developed would the parties make such a suspicious looking move? wouldn't they maybe ensure 1 student made it to the top? if this was 'fixed' wouldn't it be too obvious? I'm just speculating here. What do you guys think?

With all due respect to the two sons who passed the exam... I sincerely hope this isn't an unlawful attempt to lift a rural school by giving undue popularity. If that the case, that's the full stop for Education System of SL.No offense towards two sons who passed exam with flying colors.

it is hard to believe but I am also mindful not to discredit those two students if they really deserve .
One possibility is that two of the best students were made to sit the exam through this school as Royal family is all out to make Hambantota the capital !!

in this country, there are only two cities. in fact, it is fast becoming only one.

one is/was colombo.
next is HAMBANTOTA

from port, to road, to education to hotel to investment to infrastructure......it seems only Hambantota exist.

Any development planned for monaragala, Abepussa, nivithigala, galketiya? Menikhinna???

Arent these places also in this country????

mm........... i wonder how many students who attended colombo schools from grade 1 won first place in ALs? simple fact remains scholarship students from rural areas always did well at ALs. onlt difference this time is most of them preferred to stay at there original school. so in d future too only few students from Colombo will cme first. it's a simple case of changing demographics..........
