Accused not my biological son: Mother

The mother of the main suspect in the Ratmalana triple murder, in her evidence before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate said he was not her biological son and that she had hidden this fact for the past 31 years.

Vimukthi Maduranga De Silva is the main suspect in the killing of his wife and their two children on December 20.

In her evidence she said that she had kept this fact a secret for 31 years.

“I have kept ita secret for the past 31 years. He is not my biological son. I adopted him,” 60-year-old Padma Kalyani de Silva told Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Nirosha Fernando when the case was taken up for hearing today.

The mother said when she realized that the victims may be dying she had shouted urging her son to rush them to hospital.

“He was not keen nor in a hurryto rush them to hospital,” she said.

Their aide in her evidence and said she was unaware of candles being used in the house.

Thereafter the accused requested the judge to take down in writing the confidential statement he made before the magistrate on January 1 since it was not written down at that time.

The Magistrate directed the Police to provide any assistance in case the accused wanted to make a statement and remanded him till next Wednesday.

What relevance is there is her statement that he was her adopted son? He is a murderer as simple as that. It matters least that she kept it a secret for 31 years that does not mitigate the criminal act that he committed.
