Seized African tusks to be released to temples

E-mail Print
The 359 African tusks seized by Customs Central Intelligence Unit on May 22 last year will be released to Buddhist temples on a written request by the presidential secretariat, the Customs said.

The valuable tusks will be handed over to Buddhist temples including the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

The tusks worth about Rs.400 million were packed into two containers being shipped to Dubai from Kenyan port of Mumbasa.

Trade of ivory, tusks and several other animal parts are internationally banned through several conventions. (Supun Dias)

isn't it against the buddhism to associate with something that is not vegan. The tusks are from an animal that has been killed and not died out of natural causes.. hence isn't it a sin to have it in buddhist place of worship ?
