Indian actress Anjali Patil who played the lead role in Prasanna Vithanage’s newest movie ‘Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka’ (With You Without You) won the best actress award for her role in the film a short while ago at the 43rd Indian International Film Festival.

This is the first time in Sinhala cinema’s 65-year history that an overseas actress has been awarded an international award in the best actress category in a Sinhala movie, Prasanna told the Daily Mirror.

Veteran Sri Lankan actress Nita Fernando won the best actress award for Prasanna’s movie ‘Pawuru Walalu’ while Joe Abeywickrema won the best actor’s award at the Singapore International Film Festival a few years ago for ‘Purahanda Kaluwara’.

Nimmi Harasgama earlier won the best actress award at the Spain Film Festival while Malani Fonseka won the best actress award at the Italy Levante Film Festival for  Prasanna’s ‘Akasa Kusum’.- (Ramesh Uvais)

With our actresses like Malani, Geetha, Anarkali and Paba busy with politics to strenghthen the hands and legs of the President, it is no surprise that talented actresses from India take over our movies and prove their talents to the whole world.
