Starved children sent to homes

The four children who had been starving for days at a line-room in Uduwara Estate in Haliela were produced before the Badulla Magistrate today by police and handed over to the Probation and Child Care Officers for protection.

The two male older children, nine year old Anandaraj Washikumar and seven year old Anandaraj Arul were handed over to the Badulla Kathan Harvest Children’s Home while the two girls, three year old Anandaraj Kaushalya and ten-month old Anandaraj Vinod were directed to the Sujatha Children’s Home in Bandarawela.

The magistrate ordered the Probation and Child Care Officer Upeksha Krishanti Rajapakse and OIC Women and Children’s Bureau, Badulla Police WSI H.P. Nadeeka Peiris to produce the four children in court on October 31, 2012 along with a probation report. (Palitha Ariyawansa and Prasad Rukmal)

It is damn cold in these areas due to heavy rain. It's brave of the kids to survive the climate and without food. At last they got a shelter. I have no words for the lunatic father.

what about their parents..? Are they free to walk away just like that. They should be punished for bringing kids up and make them suffer. It isn't a crime?

DM, News means informing the society the "full picture". When you (DN) publish an incident or otherwise (news) there should be answers to the readers for the following questions.
What, why, and how.
Why did the children had to starve?

Good one. Now the police must arrest and punish the drunkard father who abused his wife and children resulting in the wife leaving the country and the children becoming a burden to the State. The wife should immeidately stop sending any money to him and instead open an account in the names of the children.

why were the children separated ?? Couldn't they reside within the same home ? This will cause more emotional trauma for the children....

Could have been better if all the four siblings were sent to the same Children’s Home. Anyhow this action will stop them from starving at least. May the god bless these kids with a better future.
