UPFA Provincial Council member Najeeb A. Majeed was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the temple Trees a short while ago, sources said.

They said, following the SLMC's decision to support the government in the Eastern Provincial Council, the government had named Majeed for the post with the approval from all the stakeholders.

It was also decided to offer two Ministerial Portfolios to the SLMC.

Meanwhile Minister Rauff Hakeem met the newly appointed Eastern Province Chief Minister Majeed in Colombo on Tuesday.

We already knew this story. Hakeem is known for this sort of strategy. He should have thought" Ameer Ali may become popular once he became CM and will be a threat to him in the East". Going with TNA will bring nothing to him as well as to the community. Good decision but it is against the mandate given by SLMC voters. Will SLMC voters realize this? I do not think so.

One required thing in democracy is that once a mandate is given, it should be accepted by all....So in a chequered mandate like this, one option is to go for another poll and accept the reality....! Democracy should be given time to get maturity.

Good decision. If Hakeem didn't support Govt., certainly he will be harmed and needs to loose all ministerial position with center. Also if he join hand with TNA and get a CM post for a muslim again his hands will be tied and difficult to trust TNA as well.

Do not remember National Tamil Aliance was a part of LTTE.
Hakeem understood that.
