Samudra Hikkaduwa gives statement to police

E-mail Print
Former Miss Sri Lanka contest runner up Samudra Hikkaduwa who was accused of running a brothel in Moratuwa, has given a statement to the Walana Central Anti-Vice Squad today, police sources said.

The Panadura- Walana Central Anti-Vice Squad raided a hotel said to be owned by the film and tele drama actress in Moratuwa on August 23. Two alleged sex workers and the manager of the hotel, a retired police sergeant, were arrested.

The police, on information received, had obtained a search warrant from the Moratuwa magistrate and raided the place.

However, Mrs. Hikkaduwa later denied the allegations and said she owned the property in question, which was leased out to another.

As the law stands today, wonder to what extent the actual owner is responsible for any immoral or illegal activities carried out in the premises, by a person who takes it on rent or lease. Can the owner claim total innocence and say it is not hisd/her business?

The extent of responsibility depends on who you are connected to. Higher the connection lesser the responsibility.

I am sure that this lady Samudra is behind the scene. They can nicely framed the leasing document and carry out the prostitution bussiness behind the closed doors. One day truth will come out....similar to Kamal Addaraarchchi's case last week

Country is so bankrupt; people (artists) get to oldest profession and illegal acts as a result.
Only well-connected people (to bureaucrats) enjoy life here, correct me if I am wrong.

It is wrong to blame them always. We must take measures against the people who use their service. I would say legalize the prostitution but paying for sex is illegal and criminal offence. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There are many places in and around moratuwa/Panadura it going out of hand, lets concerned authorities act fast. These are patronised by affuluent people in society who use the power to make this profession survive.

Why cannot prostitution be legalized in Sri Lanka? Its legal in many countries. In Asia, The main characteristic of the region is the very big discrepancy between the laws which exist on the books and what occurs in practice. For example, in Thailand prostitution is illegal, but in practice it is tolerated and partly regulated, and the country is a destination for sex tourism. Such situations are common in many Asian countries. In these countries there is a very strong double standard: it is considered acceptable for men to use the services of the prostitutes. But prostitutes themselves are stigmatized .

Isn't it time prostitution is legalized in this country? It has gone on from time immemorial and it would go on as long as there are humans on this earth. So why not take the practical step and make it legal? That way everyone is safe. What is happening now is hypocrisy. When I was a student abroad, whenever a politician from S/L visited, the first request he had was to visit a brothel. I am not kidding.

Sounds to me as though she was just providing a service. Not sure why everyone gets so worked up about this stuff, it's been going on for thousands of years and is simply another facet of mutually exploitative human behavior.
Leave the woman alone she's an entrepreneur who's providing a much needed service for all the hypocrites in what is effectively a warped and twisted society in this land of ours.

Whats wrong with a Brothel? Much better than girls at risk walking the street.
Absolute waste of taxpayer money. Absolute waste. How is this woman a danger to anyone but the IRS who just wants their cut. Ridiculous.
It's idiotic that prostitution is illegal at all. Why on earth shouldn't beautiful people and wealthy people give each other what they want?
It's consenting adults having sex with consenting adults. And it's illegal simply because money is involved? What a stupid law that is.

This is laughable. Exactly what has she done wrong? Who is the victim? If people want to pay money for sex, what is wrong with that. It's a damn site cheaper than marriage then divorce. This is going to be a laughing stock in a hundred years time when hopefully, attitudes will not include moralizing, religious bigotry. I know who I would rather see in jail, the politicians who rob us all blind, lined their pockets and sat back while the whole economy collapses. Let's not forget, its the money people, including the politicians who control governments and the nation and who ultimately preside over this.

This is common in Sri Lanka. Once my house in Moratuwa area were given to a nice lady, who came from a beetle car. Nothing was suspicious, but after some months neighbor start calling me regarding some activity.
She used to keep teenagers and trasport them to near by hotel at the night. But Moratumulla police top guys comes directly to the house even with uniforms.
When |I asked them to vacate, they just left... still the business going on in some other place in moratuwa.

In Sri Lanka it is always a case of barking up the wrong tree! We shout about trivial things when there is daylight robbery all around. It is the wonder of Asia!
