E-mail Print
About 60 students who had participated in a night class for the Year 5 scholarship examination at the Wilgamuwa Handungamuwa Vidyalaya have fallen ill due to alleged food poisoning.

The students had been admitted to Handungamuwa hospital and hospital sources claimed they were suffering from diarrhea.

The students’ parents claim that they had been provided with a dinner packet and a glass of milk by the Zonal Education Office last night. (Pix and Tex by Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa)

A good intent turned bad. Please don't stop giving food packets and milk to the students, but give them good ones.

Sri Lanka is free falling to the bottom of third world food safety standards rankings. Glass of milk looks like the suspect.

These things happen because of the greed of contractors to supply contaminated food and make more profits - and also to give commissions to those who pass the tender.

Those who prepare food should be well trained in hygiene, food handleing ect.Hygiene is very important andalso temperatures of food should be taken as a factor for this type of poisoning.

Award the tenders on the recommendation of the P.H.II. and the M.O.H. Office.
