E-mail Print
A complaint lodged by a land owner that Deputy Petroleum Minister Sarana Gunawardena had asked for Rs.250 million in order to continue construction of a housing scheme , was forwarded to the Bribery Commission by Police Chief N.K. Illangakone

The complainant Duminda Lakshan Liyanage who is a resident of Pelawatta is putting up a housing scheme at Horagolla. He had lodged his complaint at the Police Headquarters on Thursday evening.

The Deputy Minister in a counter complaint told Police Headquarters that the businessman had made these allegations with the intention of tarnishing his image.

The land owner in his complaint said he had given the Deputy Minister two dated cheques for nearly Rs.200 million and gave another Rs.50 million in cash.

However Deputy Minister Gunawardena has denied these allegations. (Supun Dias)

Sad to say 90% of the voters only know to read and write....but only 10% knows how to use their brains. This is the reason the country is run by these kind of people.

this makes no sense. paying 250 m as a bribe for a housing scheme in horagolla does not make sense at all. say there is a 50 houses in the scheme, and the cost of the house will increase by 5 mil to recover the bribe.

Can any body believe that the Deputy Petroleum Minister would accept Rs.250 million from a local man when the CPC dealings are coming under his purview also.

This man forcibly took over innocent peasant's properties since 1998. Some of the victims had heart attacks and died. Poeple have to rovolt against them like France and America did centuries ago. Sri Lankan voters are real idiots. I agree.
