Audio: Enjoining order on UNP

The Mount Lavinia District Court today issued an enjoining order restraining the UNP from acting on the constitutional amendment, which states that elections for the party leadership should be held every six years, UNP Provincial Councillor Maithree Gunaratne said.

District Court Judge Priyantha Fenrando issued noticed on all working committee members to be presentin courts on August 22 and show cause why this amendment to the UNP constitution was introduced.

Maithree Gunaratne and two other lawyers filed a petition in the Mount Lavinia District Court seeking an order to annul the amendment to the party constitution and declare it null and void.

If you go through the new companies act the directors are responsible for their action and the monies invested is not theirs but the share holders. So why not question the decisions of the directors.

This is the way to get back to old glory. present leader made many blunders situation the UNP in today clearly evidence what has happened to one time majestic Party. how can u changes by passing part constitution. How can you vote for people like him with trust. once comes to power he will do what he likes not what country wants. this is the situation our country has faced even now.

No party in democratic Sri Lanka belongs to a certain members or family etc. Everything relating to the governing of a party should be transparent and within the constitution of the party. Hope the issue will be sorted out with less damage to the party members and supporters. UNP is still a respectable and a responsible party. Hope it stay same.

At a time the people have lost confidence over our judicial system this enjoining order has been issued. The government also highlighted the need of a strong opposition taking in to consideration this.
