CBK denies

E-mail Print
Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga has denied categorically that UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, met her during the Presidential Election Campaign of 1994 and provided her with confidential information regarding the campaign strategies of the late Gamini Dissanayake – the UNP Presidential Candidate.

Issuing a statement her office said, “Madam Chandrika Kumaratunga has noted with surprise, reports of statements made by several Senior Members of the present Cabinet to the effect that Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Leader of the UNP, met her during the Presidential Election Campaign of 1994 and provided her with confidential information regarding the campaign strategies of the late Mr Gamini Dissanayake – the UNP Presidential Candidate.”

The statement also said that Madam Kumaratunga categorically denies this assertion. Mr Wickremasinghe did not at any time, give her any information about Mr. Dissanayake’s or the UNP’s campaign.

The office of the former President Sri Lanka further revealed that Mr. Wickremasinghe did pay a courtesy call on her after she assumed duties as Prime Minister, in his capacity as the outgoing Prime Minister. He also called on her at the time she left office as Executive President. Likewise Madam Kumaratunga called on President D B Wijetunga, at the time he retired from office to bid him farewell. This is a customary practice of cultured persons.

In conclusion the statement pointed out , Madam Kumaratunga wishes to add that she is not in any way surprised that senior members of her party failed to understand this, as very few of them took the trouble to indulge in this little courtesy at the time she left office as President.(Asian Tribune)

This is a serious allegation against the past prime minister of UNP Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe and the past president of SLFP madam Chandrika Bandaranaike by one of her own senior ministers. There should be an inquiry in this regard and should punish the culprit against deformation of character of the innocent parties. Slinging mud during election is common in Sri Lanka.

We are very unfortunate to have ministers who lie and try to mislead voters for the benefit their party at elections. If this was true, this minister should have told it at the time of 1999 Presidential Elections where Ranil Wickramasinghe also was a main candidate. From what we hear regarding alleged corruptions by senior officials of his ministry. we can come to conclusions regarding his efficiency and integrity. I think Ranil should sue him for this statement.

Expect more salvo like this. There is an Election close at hand. More additions to the pre-election trends, the strongest being Sajith or a clansman bashing the UNP leadership. Sri Lanka is a ship caught in rough weather with engine trouble and no lighthouse in sight.

Deadmen tell no tales and Chandirka madam vehemently denies and Maithipala Sirisena has not "Lanuwak ti Ellenna" Aho dukaki, boruwata mgaka netho!!

CBK cannot be believed. She dislikes everyone. When Channal 4 aired the accusation that Mahinda's government killed surrendering terrorists what did she say? She said her son rang her from overseas and said he is ashamed to be a SriLankan. What about the killings during her time? She is better known as the "Rogue Queen" She was a traitor to the UNP as well as to the present Government.

Sir Gamini Dissanayake,Wha t he has done to this country, its a wonder. We all are unlucky to see his death in the hands of the UNP.
God only knows,if he was alive, our mother land would have been amazing.

Our children, childr ens are just unlucky.

She is very famous to' twist and turn' things to her advantage, now that she has become a great friend of Ranil through Mangala's intervention what more can we expect from her...we remember the days prior to the Presidential polls in 1994....she wanted to destroy Gamini Dissanayake in every way...Readers pl read the Hansard just before the '94 Presidential elections

These very same SLFP senior ministers who accused Ranil of having a "Ali Koti Givisuma" during a Presidential Election went after offering inducements to the LTTE to prevent the Tamils from voting during the 2005 Presidential Elections. So, they have lost all credibility and people know they are famous for uttering such stories during elections.

RW is a respected politician remaining in the country now. Unfortunately, most of the people including the people who have cast their vote to the UNP in previous elections to the UNP did not understand the present political culture of the country and always put the blame on the opposition leader saying that he is not suitable for the UNP leadership. Former UNP leader JRJ was also unpopular person among the general public like RW but he won the 1977 election with great majority.

Mr.Pradeep; As a former President when she was making a speech in public as she got upset when her son was calling via the phone from UK saying that “I was much regretted and shame to be a Sri Lankan seen after war crimes documentary on Chanel 4 TV program”. But as a former President; is it correct to repeat her son’s immature level of understanding in public? Her part of the speech was included in ‘Killing Felids –Part 2” as a justification.
If she is love to the nation then irrespective of the President whoever governs the country, she should categorically oppose any such international acts. In fact she acted highly irresponsible and unethical way. She shouldn’t make any harm to the country though she doesn’t like Rajapakses. I ask you what cause of action country should take against her?

Premadasa armed the LTTE to fight the Indians. Ultimately they killed Premadasa their benefactor . He who rides a tiger will find it hard to di
mount. The Tigers killed Tamil Amirthelingam, their mentors . Ranil and Chandrika promised the north and the east for Prabakarn to rule as Chief Minister . Praba wanted nothing but Eelam. Fortunately King Mahinda took power and finished off the Tigers. Today the remnants of Tigers and, idiots like Karu Jayasuriya and Chandrika and the dumb JVP as well as General Gonseka have joined together to undermine our loving King Mahinda and Prince Gota who saved the nation .
If not for Gota who persuaded Mahinda to appoint the retiring Fonseka as Army Commander, Fonseka would be catching Madakari in the Beira lake today.
