Mace won’t be allowed into the CMC chambers: Dy. Mayor

E-mail Print
The mace that was forcibly removed from the Colombo Municipal Council by some councillors would not be allowed into the Council if returned, Deputy Mayor Titus Perera said today.

He said a complaint was lodged at the Cinnamon Gardens Police about the removal of the mace and added that it would only be allowed into the Council if a court order was issued to that effect.

“At the committee meeting to be held on the August 30, a motion will be filed to have the mace permanently out of the CMC chambers as the mace would not be essential for Council meetings,” the Deputy Mayor said.

Meanwhile, CMC opposition member Roy Bogahawatta said if such a motion was passed the opposition would make sure that meetings to take place.

“It is not the personal property of any CMC member. This is essential for the running of the CMC and if they do not allow the mace to be returned we will take action against the Mayor and the ruling party members,” Mr. Bogahawatta said. (ISA)

Funny opposition members in the CMC. First they remove the Mace and now when a Police complaint is lodged, they want to bring it back under the pretext that it is essential for conduct of meetings. All these UPFA members are real jokers. One cant blame them either because they are all an uneducated, ill-behaved lot.

Who gave this contract to the Council Member who forcibly removed the Mace in front of the Mayer while the Council Meeting was being held? Can the Police take action against the culprit?

Deputy Mayor is a real honest person who is also straightforward , unlike Muzamil. He is more concerned about the mace and Muza is least worried.

Now the whole Colombo public knows about the Mayor's weaknesses and the Mace is not a problem atall. Its enough that an un-experienced senseless Muzamil holding the top seat and the 2nd in command Mr. Titus Perera should take over the Mayorship.

The entire public who voted to Muzamil are realizing that they have done wrong. Has he express anything about the lost mace, No. Titus only knows the value of the Mace. We welcome Mr. Titus's move and we will render our support to him. Go ahead with your fighting spirit Mr. Titus.

I don't think that's the case. He has no time to solve petty issues which he rightfully gave his deputy to look at. MUZAMMIL SHOULD FOCUS ON BUILDING THE CITY AND NOT WASTE TIME LOOKING FOR THE MACE.

Good on Titus Perera for taking a stand against thuggery and hooliganism in the MC. These are the same louts who will ultimately end up in parliament if no action is taken against them now.

First and foremost the culprit who stole the MACE should be put behind bars. this is a disgrace nothing of this kind takes place in any part of the world.

Better if a sharp double edge sword is used for the purpose.
