A tense situation has arisen at the Colombo Municipal Council with opposition members taking hold of the mace of the council, compelling the suspension of todays sittings

CMC UPFA member Riza Zarook told the Daily Mirror that the members of the opposition would not let go of possession of the maze until the Mayor comes to an equitable agreement, forthwith.

“The Mayor refused to place a proposal made by us thanking the secretary of defence for providing the council 160 million worth of bowsers. When we brought this up during the sitting the Mayor acted in a dictatorial manner refusing to adhere to our requests. Therefore we had no option and council member Anura Sujeewa took the mace out of the council” he said. (Hafeel Farisz)
