No military done so much for the people-Gota

Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that no military in the world would ever do so much for the people in the aftermath of long-drawn war.

"When some 12,000 LTTE combatants surrendered, President Mahinda Rajapaksa personally instructed to take them directly to Rehabilitation Centres, having made them to languish in detention camps instead. No military in the world would ever dare to do so much for the people in the aftermath of a long-drowned war,” he said.

He also said, “representatives from 101 countries have so far visited North and Wanni areas after the war and they all received the firsthand information as regards development roles, now on. Such visits prove the fact that so many international communities are interested in the reconstruction process.”

Mr Rajapaksa, made this comment after opening an Army-rebuilt two storied new orphanage, ‘Blessed Virgin’s Children’s Home’ which was destroyed by terrorists in 2005, in Kaththankulam, Mannar on Saturday.

The military is great, sucks that their commander who did so much was jailed and treated like a traitor. I respect the military and the people involved in finishing the war, and non of it would have been possible without all parties concerned working together. The government, president, the people of this country, and most definitely the military.
Sucks that in the aftermath the commander was jailed, the cost of living has never been this high. People have never been so desperate to leave this country (the escalating number of boat loads apprehended shows this.) More and more loans are taken everyday, and its getting tougher and tougher to live!!!! Do something great take this opportunity of peace that everyone fought so hard to achieve and use it to ensure that our people are looked after, instead of looking after only those close to you.

if this statement is true, then he should proves by having referrundum among those people whom he refer in his statement. if not, there will be many unanswered question in regard to this statement.

People wants equal rights not the buildings the international community can see. They want their lands, houses, their livelyhood. They can build the rest themselves, and no need for the military to do it.

Terrorisism had been abolished by use of the might of the Military.People should be permitted to enjoy the freedom and choose their own political leaders democraticaly and military should not be used to force them to elect people nominated by the Govt. It will be nice if the valiant troops are withdrawn and given rest at their hometowns and absorbed in Government services
