Arrest the Minister-BASL

E-mail Print
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) at a meeting with the Attorney General had requested that necessary action be taken to arrest the minister and other suspects who were involved in a mob attack on the Mannar Courts complex.

The BASL president Wijedasa Rajapakse PC said he met the Attorney General at his office and requested him to take necessary action to arrest those involved in the incident including a government minister.

Mr. Rajapakse said all lawyers in the country decided to refrain from carrying out their duties in Courts protest over the mob attack on the Mannar Courts complex. Mr. Rajapakse said the BASL had taken a decision to file contempt of court charges in the Court of Appeal against those involved in the attack.

Work at all Courts in the country came to standstill yesterday after the BASL and Judges Associations refrained from carrying out their normal duties in protest of the threats on Mannar Magistrate by a minister and attack on the Mannar Court complex. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

A good resilience test for the newly appointed AG. He has the chance in his hand to prove his efficiency. Keen to know how it'll turn out to be!

One of the slogans of MR campaign was stoning a judge during JR Jayawardene era.....
If you really want to prove yourself, Mr MR, arrest Rishard Badurdeen.....

Correction.....stoning a judge's quarters. In this case, not only has the judge been threatened, his court too has been stoned. UPFA has beaten the other political party hands down!

When discipline, honesty and transparency is broken on the top, it follows down to the bottom. There should be an end to thuggery and violence and it should start from somewhere. All the people should participate to bring a change in the system.

when the court verdict not to give any post to T.B.Jayasundera,M.R went against the decision. When the Court issue some restriction on the fuel hike,M.R. went against it.To get the favourable decision on Sarath Fonseka's case,M.R. appointed his own judges who could dance to his music. So how come M.R. direct the I.G to look into the case?

S B D when commented on judgement from a paddy field in deep down south was charged with contempt of court and incarcerated, probably without civic rights until he bowed down to become a succesful mininster for education. Probably the people involved can aspire very great heights in polics. The way to go! UP and UP. Until Kota uda!

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

When we already have a precedent of an ex-Minister being jailed just for the offence of criticising a judgement, then what is the probloem in arresting and jailing this thuggish Minister who has openly threatened a judge personally. Inaction by the president in this case would surely contribute to increase in lawlessness in the country.
