Video: No difference between Govt. and LTTE - Ranil

E-mail Print
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said today the government was acting no different to the LTTE, which was led by Prabhakaran.

He told a joint common opposition news conference that the government should hold provincial council elections in the North as promised by the President earlier.

“The war is over now, and as promised president Rajapaksa must hold Provincial Council elections in the North. They held the General Elections and the Presidential Elections but why is the Government hesitating to hold the provincial council elections,” he asked.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said the people had the right to choose and the government which was violating the fundamental rights of the people was no different to the LTTE.

“People in the North should have the benefit of a vote. These are the very people who are demanding for an election and they are the ones who are deprived of it. If they are depriving these people of a democratic right, what’s the difference between the government and the LTTE,” he said. (Yohan Perara & Nishan Casseem)

This hesitancy on the part of the Government to hold Provincial Council elections in the North, is proving the Western Powers' point that Democratic Human Rights are being Violated!
