Polls register on the web

Sri Lankan voters will get the opportunity to surf the web to check their name in the electoral register after August 15, Elections Commissioner General Mahinda Deshapriya said today.

This is the first time the electoral register of Sri Lanka is connected to the web and latest electoral register which has been compiled for 2011 will thus be able to check on the web, he said.

The facility will be a great service for Sri Lankans abroad as until now they did not have the opportunity to check their names in the electoral register.

“The 2011 electoral register is the final compilation of voters and they cannot apply for re-registration if their name is missing in the electoral register,” Mr. Deshapriya said.
However, they can apply for registration for the 2012 electoral register. (Sandun A. Jayasekera)

My name is removed without my knowlege. I filled last 2010 application but list of 2011 not contain my name. I send a email to election commissioner never replied. There are no communication with election deparment with voters. Some countries through email can register the vote. Some counries individually contact why not register. Fuuny guys. Everything for media show.,

good to see technology being embraced more and more in the country's official activities. I wholeheartedly wish this will serve the purpose and improve in the days to come by
