Burglary at VIP’s house, suspect arrested

E-mail Print
The Mt. Lavinia police arrested a man yesterday in connection with the burglary at the house of Nishantha Wickramasinghe, chairman of SriLankan Airlines and brother of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

Police sources said the suspect was a 33 year old drug addict and a resident of Araliya Mawatha, Ratmalana. The police, who had been investigating the theft of a Rolex watch worth Rs 4 million and about Rs. 5 million worth of foreign currency, had arrested the man after receiving a tip off.

Following information received from the suspect, police had been able to recover the wrist watch and a portion of the foreign currency - which had been hidden inside a fisherman’s house. It is believed that a friend of the suspect (also a drug addict) had been living in the fisherman’s house.
The suspect had spent a portion of the loot on drugs. He is to be produced in court shortly. (Indika Ramanayake and H.M.Dharmapala)

Within 2 weeks police have arrested the suspect.
What about the 1000's of burglaries in the country and no suspects have been arrested. When people inquire of their complaint , what does the police say" If you see the burglar come and tell us"

For VIPs a "tip-off" would do, but for others several eye witnesses won't do!!!

First the police should quotation the house owner how he inherited such expensive goods.
What about the Forging currency he had in . Any way it goes back to the good old sinhala saying.
"Naduth Hamaduruwange, Baduth Hamaduruwange"

He is not the only one with a 4 Million watch. They all have it - the blood sucking hoi polloi. And they cant make a single appointment on time! Just like Air Lanka.

How come no investigations are done as to how he had 5 mil in currency and a 4 mil watch when he is just a civil servant??? Why did the Government arrest Denuwana's Mother who had 20,00 in her house???

Is this corruption at its best or what???

So, actually the police can solve a crime!!!! Strange isn't it??? How come police solve crimes efficiently when it is against the govt. but not a single among many hundreds when opponents are at the receiving end????
