The Tamil Tigers fabricated video footage to demonise Sri Lankan military and distributed them among international media to gain propaganda advantage, the now defunct LTTE's former media co-ordinator has claimed.

Velayudam Dayanidhi alias Daya Master told state-owned ITN television that fabricated footage produced in 2002 during the ceasefire with the army was distributed internationally.

"The footage used by Channel 4 are those fabricated footage issued by the LTTE," Daya Master said.

The British Channel 4 television telecast video footage titled 'Sri Lanka killing fields 1 and 2' and 'Sri Lanka killing fields - war crimes unpunished' which it alleged carry incriminating evidence of war crimes committed by Lankan troops.

The government has dismissed the Channel 4 videos as fabrications.

On the allegation of LTTE chief V Prabakaran's 12-year- old son Balachandran's killing by army in the latest Channel 4 video, Daya Master said Balachandran was under tight protection of LTTE guards and he may have been shot by LTTE guards when tried to flee.

The government has accused the Channel 4 of running a smear campaign against Sri Lanka to coincide with the on going UN Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva. (PTI)

Thaya Master is under goverment control. He is not a credible witness. He cannot be trusted to be independent just like Karuna Douglas and Pillayan.

If the footage was fabricated during the cease-fire period in 2002, then Daya Master would have played a big role in it as the Media Co-ordinator. Isn't this enough to frame charges against him. Then why are so many LTTE sympathisers and activists languishing in our prisons without any trial when these real culprits who admit their crimes are looked after by the GOSL.

Oh ye of little faith. The West is capable of fabricating far more serious crimes than this. Remember they produced aerial pictures of the WMD sites in Iraq and the presence of multitude of WMD but none were found except the slaughter of a million innocent Iraqis in the process of finding them and the sacking of their leader. The prize for the victorious USA is that they now control the flow of oil from Iraq which was what they were after all along.

No wonder, such claims were expected. Tomorrow may K P also will make similer claim, as they are in invisible custody.
Dougles and Karuna amman will also make such claims, but they will wait till last moment the voting take place in UN.

If it was a fabricated video footage during the cease-fire period in 2002 then Daya Master would have taken a key role in the fabrication as he was the media co-ordinator for a long time. If he admits that, then why are the CID sleuths silent. He should atleast be questioned. Only the suspected LTTE sympathisers are remanded without a trial. Moreso, this statement could be a fabricated one to attack the UNP and Norway sponsored cease-fire.

I think the Channel 4 scenes are real, only the narratives are fabricated. Every LTTE abuse of human life, especially on the Tamil community itself, was depicted as deployed by government soldiers. The video response (DM 19.3.2001) is very good. I wish the UK broadcasting regulators could be persuaded to compel Channel 4 to broadcast it as per their own charter for balanced broadcasting.
