The protest organised by the Movement to Restore Democracy headed by the wife of the former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka ended a short while ago. The protest which was held with the participation of many political parties, including the UNP who later joined the protest, began in front of the Supreme Court  complex at around 10.30am today, amidst heavy police presence. The protesters later marched towards the Welikada Prison where the former Army Commander was being held.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror DNA parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga said that they had requested the crowds to disperse a short while ago. " Vijitha Herath, UNP MPs Range Bandara and Palitha Thawarapperuma and I spoke to the General before he was taken to the hospital, and right after that we asked the crowds gathered to disperse peacefully," he said.
