We are committed to free education

E-mailPrint
President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the nation a short while ago said that his government is committed to free education and a free health care system. “When C.W.W. Kannangara introduced the free education bill, with those like S.A. Wickramasinghe, N.M Perera, J.R. Jayawardena and a host of others, D.A. Rajapaksa was also with them. We are committed towards a free education and a free health service for our people and we won't let anyone take that away from us,” he said. (HF)

How about open university,SLITT,NIBM then? Did they affect free education ?no . Give a chance for others to learn as well after all democracy is about creating 'equality' currently there is no equal right to learn after A/Ls in sri lanka.Arranging facilities for student loans as in others countries will ensure the poor also to study in private universities, whilst the government should protect and nurture free education as it is.

Free Education, Yes. But it should be free of bungling by Ministers and officials because at present the free education system is in shambles in spite of there being 3 or 4 ministers for the subject in addition to a so called "supervisor"

Proper supervision should be done by school inspectors to see whether the teachers cover the syllabi on time rather than signing the attendance register in the morning and then doing the vanishing trick. Those same teachers get awards at the prize giving ceremony for best attendance and all the prize winners and parents cheer. Hilarious. They cover about 20% of the syllabus in school.

Education is not free in Sri Lanka, they make blunders in the exams and the poor parent has to incur heavy expenses to get the results re-evaluated ??

Just for names sake it is not enough to have free education. Please see that it is functioning accurately starting from releasing correct Advanced Level results to giving the correct district rank and releasing results of all those who sat at a given time after proper checking.

FURTHER EYE OPENERS !

At a time when we see over 25% of our population (35% of them are YOUTH !) experience RESTRICTIONS with our Mobility - for Different Reasons - still, this INHERENT RIGHT to EDUCATION, are DENIED through Injurious Building Designs even at places of higher education and thereby denying opportunities for education

Children and YOUTH are our precious FUTURE LEADERS. When they themselves and their Friends experience Marginalization and Social Exclusion at places of Education DUE TO NON-COMPLIANCE with Laws and Regulations, it creates IRREVOCABLE Damages in these Young Minds!!

Losses here are Incalculable in value!!

So.....what's next?

Will that happen even in this field when we have THREE Cabinet Ministers and Deputies as well?????

Free is good but make it a quality education otherwise there is no point. Also, take away that right from students who do not appreciate it by striking and causing other unnecessary mayhem.
