Lankan files case against X-files actress

E-mailPrint

A differently abled Sri Lankan Army Captain who had been appointed as a caretaker of the properties owned by popular X-files actress Gillian Anderson had filed a case at the Colombo Commercial High Court against Ms. Anderson and her husband claiming Rs.100 million as compensation.

This transpired in court when the case against the differently abled army captain over alleged misappropriation of Rs.17.8 million from the properties owned by the actress came up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne.

According to the case filed at the Commercial High Court American Actress Gillian Anderson, Mark Griffiths (the husband of Ms. Anderson) and L.G. Senaratne had been named as defendants. The complainant Anura Ratne Bandara of Yakkala stated that though he rendered a yeoman service to the company with full commitment to develop the properties, the defendants took measures to terminate his service. He further alleged that the defendants failed to provide all facilities agreed on. He further stated that the defendants had also promised him to build a house on his behalf and it was also ignored by them. Accordingly, the complainant asked court that the defendants be ordered to pay an amount of Rs.100 million as compensation.

However, counsel who appeared on behalf of the property company, told court that the defendants had not received summons in this regard. He further informed that the Army captain had been appointed on a contract basis and as such he was not a permanent employee of the company.

The CID maintained that the suspect army captain had obtained Rs.6.8 million for the purpose of supplying electricity to the property and thereby misappropriated one million rupees. The CID informed court that its detectives had collected evidence to confirm the matter after contacted by the Ceylon Electricity Board’s Kiribathgoda branch.

Further magisterial inquiry into the matter was postponed for January 30. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Ungrateful man!! An opportunist!! How many stories have there been of locals fleecing foreigners who come to help us using their own money and all we do is find ways and means to make things unpleasant for them.

Don't speak that way Mister. Being a Sri Lankan you can buy land in Australia, USA or in many western countries in the world. If Sri Lankans can live in Australia, USA and Europe why cant they stay in SL.

I still ask, who the hell she thinks she is? For me the disabled captain is a lot worth than she is. She cannot buy land in Lanka, just like those former Sri Lankans, who now carry Australian, Canadian, etc passports, without being a dual citizen. Is she a dual citizen of Sri Lanka, Nuwan?

sri lanka was already known as the land of the ungratefuls long ago. During my stay in sri lanka i have found the sri lankan people (or at least the majority) as uncivilized uncouth selfish and jealous people. Once tourists go back to their home countries they have nothing but bad things to say about sri lanka and sri lankan people.

This is the most ungreatful comment I read for a long time. he says "during my stay in Sri Lanka' to indicate that he is abroad and he assumes he is far ahead others. I was in US for five years ..but if you have a broad mind you would understand everywhere humans are same.

Kapila, Whats the matter with you? You must have an axe to grind for some ulterior motive. Sri Lankan's are known the world over for their hospitality, kindness and decency. Tourists have nothing but praise for S/L when they go back home. You must be happy living a second class life in a first class country and bitter that you could not make it in the country of your birth. I have seen many S/Lankan's doing menial jobs abroad which they would not do in S/L. You must be one of them, who is not an academic or a professional, if you were, you would never have insulted the country of your birth. Very sad.

I can understand foreigners finding fault with us lankans but when our own people who just went abroad for a few years start comparing our country to their adopted land it annoys me. There are selfish uncouth people in every country so we are not unique. It's only the ex- lankan 'tourist; who always find fault with this country just to show that they are now superior but work in petrol-stations, super-markets, garbage collection or on the dole. If Sri Lanka is not good enough don't come back. Stay on in your 'adopted' land as 2nd class citizens.

Dear Kapila, Your perception of Sri Lankans are so negative. Negativity breed ill informed opinions, so keep your negative ideas to yourself and dont U dare come back to SL :-)

Kapila, you think that by criticizing your countrymen you will be more accepted 'as one-of-them' where you live now? Let me tell you, what you will get is their pity not their respect.

This is getting very ugly and its going to create a lot of negative publicity for Sri Lanka. Foreigners would think twice before investing in projects in S/L if the guy Bandara gets away with this illegal extortion to cover his greedy fraud.

LKR100m???? Real Srilankan Army mentality after committing the crime by defrauding the foreign investor. Something has to be done seriously if are to promote foreign investment. I have heard of this injustice to tamils, and this is the first time to a foreigner. He in the first place is not suitable to the Army!

sue a hollywood star and expect 100 million rupees in compensation? nice try but I hope this so called army captain realizes that this is not America, where people become rich overnight by suing people. you are better off buying a lottery ticket if you thought you could win this 100 million. i hope he loses this case, or else Sri Lanka could go down record books as a place that no foreigner should ever invest their precious foreign currency as there are very cunning, dishonest opportunists living there!

It is a SAD situation that many Sri Lankans are VERY UNGRATEFUL these days.Their ONLY focus is to rip some one off. I just experienced a similar situation with some villages that I have been helping. (I am no celebrity but a human who wanted to help other needy humans). I have learned my lesson never to go there or help anyone.
