A man who had allegedly stolen Rs.717 from a charity box placed at the Sambuddhaloka Viharaya in Colombo Fort was remanded till January 20 by a Colombo Court today. Producing the suspect before Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, the Fort Police said that the suspect Muniyandi Mahalingam of Madulsima had taken part in the robbery with construction workers at the temple.
Police further said that a Buddhist monk had seen the incident and made a complaint with the police. It was reported that police were able to arrest the suspect while he was counting money.
Having considered the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded till January 20. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
