Amendments will be introduced shortly to the marriage registration and divorce law of Muslims to meet today’s requirements, Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem said.
During a discussion he had with the Council of Quasi Judges at his ministry, Minister Hakeem said the law pertaining to marriage and divorces among Muslims requires amendments and Quasi Judges who attended to those functions need to be aware with the Quasi Law in practice in other Muslim countries.
The minister told Quasi Judges that he would discuss the possibility of training Sri Lankan Quasi Judges in other Muslim countries with their envoys based in Colombo.
He instructed ministry officials to take measures to finalise the legal draft of the amendments to the Quasi Law and present it in Parliament as soon as possible.
Minister Hakeem pledged to quasi judges that the ministry would take steps to pay their salary arrears shortly and also to increase the monthly salary.
Minister Hakeem promised to withdraw the decision taken by the Judicial Services Commission to suspend the Identity Cards of Quasi Judges and to appoint a senior assistant secretary to the Justice Ministry in charge of quasi courts. (By Sandun A. Jayasekera)

Every aspects that governance Muslims life are defined Sharia law. Even the marriage, divorce, Islamic finance, the way Muslims dress, what they eat, Islamic social etiquettes, prayers, Hajj, fasting, capital punishments, alms giving, sadaka, zakaath, everything are documented in Sharia Law. Sharia means the "The Code of Conduct" in arabic :)

Excellent move . According to Islamic Shari'ah, a muslim youth is allowed to marry a christian or a jew girl and she is not forced change her monotheist religion. This religious permission does not implement in Sri Lanka. I draw the attention of the Minister in this regard and request to do the needful.

he is allowed to marry jew or christian who practise the religion as it was in their initial scripture. but we all know that, now there are so many denominations and splits and no one believe as jeses or moses (peace be upon them) did.

when the law is violated either party can call for a divorce subject to satisfying the conditions, islam has given the right for men & women. today we can see, those who misinterpret this they indirectly claim marry one officially rest keep it unofficially. from the point of islam marrying more than one means, the man is taking over a new responsibility addition to the current. basically the socio-economic needs officially or he is binding legally. what's wrong in it? it should be commendable.

Sir, the Quasi Laws should be according to the Sharia of The Holy Quran and the HADITHS (Sayings/Preachings of our beloved Prophet). That goes to marrying more than one wife. It should be legalized and have a Registration of Marriage certificate from the Govt. If the man marries more than one wife by having a NIKAH ceremony in the Mosque or at home by the Registrar of Marriage without any documentation how is the child of the parents going to be called?
Not according to the

Age parity is condemned by many, lip-sake, but they resort to rape, abuse etc.
Bigamy possible, not polygamy, at this rate of inflation!
Polyandry is not practiced by any race in Sri Lanka, though there are lot of references in the history, I don't know whether aborigines even practice that, now!
Concubinage is over with kings' rule, therefore it is practical to amend the law for easy marriage and uncomplicated divorce where the children won't be affected.
Islam is no excuse, the practicality should be looked into, without compromising Quranic injunctions.
When there are more men and less women divorce rate will be high viceversa.
Note: Homosexuality has no place in Islam.
Therefore minority laws are meaningful and cannot be absorbed in common law.

With ideas like yours, you should be moving to Afghanistan.
There should be no ground in Sri Lanka to allow for any one to have more than one husband or wife. Polygamy is a disgusting and primitive practice that has no place in modern society. Muslim law has been practised in Sri Lanka for a long time, but it should be noted that under the civil code, only the first wife is legally recognised as the lawful wife.
Lima, you should know something about science before speaking. Yes, if a woman has four or multiple husbands, and bears a child, you can definitely tell which man's child it is through DNA testing. And in answering your question, please tell me how can a man satisfy four wives, on the same day at the same time and in the same place? The equation is no different for either the man or woman. If a woman that has four husbands is a prostitute, then a man who has four wives is also a prostitute! In all cases you are wrong.

Rauuf Hakee, to know the system and islamic law which is exclusively know by the ULEMAS and NOT by judges , so approach the JAMIATUL ULEMA and they will guide you how to impelement these , many quasi judges do not know the basic la w, i have spoken to many but they are appointed on political basis and they do not even know a single muslim law , the hon CG weeramantry is well known about islamic jurisprudence but our current muslim judges do not know even what our former world court VP knew.
