No transport for IDPs to vote

Internally Displaced People (IDP) of Manik Farm in Vavuniya waiting to travel to Jaffna to cast their votes this morning could not go to cast their vote since the buses deployed on the route had mysteriously gone missing, JVP MP Vijitha Herath told Daily Mirror online.

“The government’s plan is to prevent the voters from casting their vote,” Herath claimed. According to him these IDP’s had been assured transportl by the government and they had been ready and waiting for the buses only to be disappointed.

MP Herath was on his way to Manik Farm when he was detained by the police at a check point. He said that he was on his way to address the voter grievances and solve the transportation issue.

Meanwhile the Centre for Election Monitoring (CMEV) Spokesperson Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu said that there was an attempt to disrupt free and fair polls in the North. “There is some kind of organized attempt to disrupt the polls in the North to ensure a low voter turnout,” he said.

What else do you expect from a gangland government. they have stooped to such tactics to make sure the clan is back in power to rob the Srilankan.

This is what the Tamils have been complaining about for decades. When these kind of things happen to us, we stand and shout. No one can rule without us Sinhalease so we are largely protected but unfortunately when these things happen to the minorities, we keep quiet. So their voices never get heard in this democracy. Much of this mess is our fault, we should stop blaming them and take responsibility too.

This has far reaching adverse effects on democracy. It is pushing democracy loving citizens back to the jungles and inviting to take guns.

Actually, their is no humanity left in Sri Lanka. The behaviour of citizens and their leaders in other countries are exemplary to what we assume and practice as Buddhists.

I am sure MR is going to win with the help and might of India. MR's strategy is not plotted in Colombo but in Delhi. Only SF and RW think they would even come close to MR's votes. Gotabaya will ensure victory somehow for MR. Anyone want to guess how?

Now the sinhalese are concerned. Because it involves them too!!! Otherwise they would have just ignored and said the Tamils always complain for no reason!!!!

MR calls election 2 years ahead of time, saying he wants to give northern voters a chance to exercise their franchise. Why is his govt. machinery now denying these same voters this opportunity? What a waste of money! We will be paying even higher taxes after the election to fund this colossal blunder.

No wonder as why those Jaffna people took arms. We are at the verge of encouraging yet another ethnic conflict in this country. An ethnicity that suffered for the last 30 years and even after the eradication of terrorism, those civilian are yet to enjoy the true democracy in this country.

We had been living in a hell for past 30 years because minority had tried to take majority for a ransom to gain more power. It is up to you guys to decide whether we should support a united Sri Lanka and create opportunities for everyone. Not empty promises which will send us back another 30 years to past!

How can you call this as fair and free election when these Tamils cannot vote. The Election Commissioner should call for fresh election in North and until then the final result should not be declared. This is the mistake the Election Commissioner did in the last Election.

LTTE would have been better off without Praba. At least the tamils would have had a much better political wing to back them up. My heart goes out to those in the IDP camps.

My sympathies on them no matter for whom they decided to vote, their rights have been unfairly taken away. At least hope their lives will improve be it MR or SF coming into the seat.... May God be with Sri Lanka.
