Moves are afoot to limit the use of alcohol in the country. JHU MP Ven. Attureliye Rathana Thera said that they would bring a proposal to limit the alcohol content in drinks to 20 percent and later gradually reduce it to 15 percent. (YP)

I think people should be given the choice to decide and they should have variety in the market rather than let someone else decide.

Great. We can all become a captive market for Chinese rice wine, whose alcohol content is -- yes -- 15%. What a coincidence!

When you put a bar (not the drinking kind) on anything it gets sweeter. So people will find means and ways of getting what is banned. Best is to let the people decide. Not ban them.

Please reduce the thuggery level to 20% and then to 0% before talking of other levels. By the way, 20% marked on the label means 40% alcohol.

Don't look negative. Overall alcohol consumption has decreased in past few years and cigaratte usage is even lesser. So be positive on this move.

This is to support their 'boss' Chakravarti, who said that serving a 'little' liquor by the President, at Temple Trees, was quite OK. Wonder if these so called 'monks' have misunderstood the relevant 'sil padaya,' which says 'sura meraya majja pama' etc., with 'majja pama' being (wrongly) interpreted as 'mada pamanin.' This is why, in Sri Lanka, there is a saying that "when you want to eat it, even a 'kabaragoya' becomes a 'thalagoya.'" Mere hypocrites, in the guise of monks.
