General Fonseka arrested

E-mail Print

Former army Chief and opposition Presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka and his media secretary Senaka de Silva were arrested by the military police a short while ago, opposition Member of Parliament Mano Ganeshan told Daily Mirror online.

Military spokesman Major Prasad Samarasingha confirmed that the General has been arrested from his Colombo office for committing military offences.

Meanwhile the memory chips of the cameras of the Daily Mirror photographer and an AFP journalist covering the arrest of the General were confiscated by the military who had surrounded the General's office.

It is no doubt an extremely sad day for the majority of us Sri Lankans. This is clearly the end of democarcy, in Sri Lanka ! Most of the law abiding people have been reduced to being passive onlookers, unable to speak-up or act, in accordance with our conscience. For, if we do, we have to be ready to face dire consequences. To top it all, it is sad that we Sri Lankans, and most notably the Sinhalese, never want to experience the infinite power of uniting to speak with one voice and send out clear signals against the high-handed actions of our mighty rulers, who are intoxicated with their own power.

Those who take-up swords: die by the swords! When people are drunken with power, they do not know what they are doing.

Hon. President, please practice what you preach! Put hatred and vengeance behind you and focus on development. The country is in turmoil! All religious Gods, we surrender our motherland to you - save us from this disaster!

No one above the law. If he served for Army he is responsible to act according to Army law. He can not tell what happened while he was at Army even though he is retired now. He can not go away with all is unwanted remarks and acts just because of his try to become the President. Kohomada Kema???? Athi Vishistai Sir!!!!!!!!!!!

If u want to carry your future politics to forward u should be friend with gota otherwise same thing for next military general also.(MR a good person),This arrest not a political move this is in-between two US citizens problem. One think Gota became DS
Over SF(that was ego problem)......So dont care this is not a military act 51 but this is a code of contact in between gota&SF............The shame is our war hero& military image spoiling by dirty politicians.........I thing our military should not involve in political activities....

Our leaders are petty minded and selfish and power hungry.
They do not know to respect their own kith and kin. They show off from what type of stock they come in.
Where is righteousness of this so called BUDDHIST COUNTRY ????????
If winter comes can spring be far behind?
