Fonseka planned Russian style coup

E-mail Print

The government today revealed that there was an attempt by General Sarath Fonseka to stage a 'Russian style' coup against the government following the recent Presidential elections.

Cabinet Spokesperson and Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, speaking to reporters claimed that Fonseka had plans to appoint ‘Bolshevik Committees’ at every state institution to carry out routine work after assassinating President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his bothers Gotabhaya Rajapakse and Basil Rajapakse.

The government had already arrested several people including some ex-military officers over their alleged involvement in the coup attempt. (SAJ)

Yet another sequel to a popular movie after "Conspiracy Theory". This one is to be called "Russian Roulette - 2". Even a lie repeated ad nauseum looks like the truth to those who propagate it and their blind followers who only watch and listen to disinformation disseminated by the State Media. Go on, at this rate we might come up with an award winning script for an Oscar award.

He must be accountable for coup crime and also to Hi corp commission crime.
This can not be simply let out.
The biggest cirme is betryaing our forces by bogus alligation of white flag stroy.
He must produce before military court and meet out maximum punishment.

The Only honourable thing SF can now do is ADMIT HIS STUPIDITY AND APOLIGISE TO THE PRESIDENT AND ASK FOR HIS PARDON.

HE MUST DROP HIS INFLATED EGO NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

OTHERWISE HE MAY GO "TROPPO"

Today MR is the president of SL and throughout the election campaign he managed to land 6 million voters by spreading these baseless propaganda.
90 percent of those 6 million voted NOT based on MR's manifesto, economic policies or good governance. Those are 'Thank you' votes or victims of false propaganda similar to this. But I don't call them as 'traitors' as we are in a democratic society, so we should be able to vote whoever we think is the best for the job.
If SL governement has hard evidence on this why don't they arrest culprits, after all MR won by 1.8million majority.

First of all it was not a coup, and I dont think SF had idea of even arresting MR and brothers, forget about killing them.
Bolshevik committee??? yes, but dont call it a Bolshevik commitee, it would be Presidental Commitee.

He had idea of putting a presidental commitee to every state institution, to oversee the corruption of ministers and as far as public is concerned it is a good idea because ministers dont have free ride with money. SF knew ministers will be corrupted politicians from whom he got support. so he wanted to put an end to corruption. I think that was a JVP idea.

the government should not come down to this level of misguiding public, by doing so ,they are doing more harm to the country.

MR won, SF lost that is all, the country has to move on, whoeve deserve will come to power next.

It was a foolish thing to allow fonseka as common condidate. even fonseka not intend to do coup. it was totally wrong foolish Ranil allowed fonseka as common condidate. Very true! A few days after May 19th, when the whole country, including the 300,000 displaced victims, are breathing a long sigh of relief and the armed forces were buoyant and really geed up, I'm sure SF only had to say the word. It would have been a perfectly bloodless take over. He didn't ; because he was an Officer and a true patriotic gentleman. For that, the people are paying a heavy price.
