Lankan Army loses foreign training

E-mail Print

The Army has not received any invitation to take part in training exercises and combat courses overseas especially for the special forces and army commandos following the white flag allegations raised by the former army chief General Sarath Fonseka.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that several European countries which used to invite the Sri Lankan military for training had now snubbed the island nation as a result of the allegations allegedly raised by the former military chief.

General Fonseka was quoted in a weekend newspaper prior to the recent Presidential elections as saying some senior LTTE officials were killed by the military despite surrendering with white flags.

The General however rejected ever making such claims in the interview and threatened to sue the newspaper over the report but has not done so as yet.  (GS, SD)

This demonstrate how politics can destroy the image of a country so easily. Whoever who raised the issue of white flag execution must back the claims with evidence or the law book of the army must be thrown at the person for making a mockery of the war.
One of the two must happen to make way forward to progress. Country cannot afford to go on like this.

SL Citizen is eagerly watching the abnormal post election moves of General, like no other defeated Presidential candidate in the past. He will be judged by "how to handle the defeat gracefully" , which citizen is certain that general has been given such training in the army.

Great betrayal!
People of this country will remember SF as good soldier but betrayed entire nation to gain short term political gains.
Once good name became discarded name due to foolish decesion.
One can not go against peoples' wish!

Guys Just realize that we dont want Foerign training now.. In fact they need to come to Sri Lanka for training.. Remember we are one of the few (if not the only one) Armed forces in the country to have finished a 30 year long Civil war against one of the most dangerous tagged terrorist organizations of the wordl! So don't worry.. be happy.. you will soon find that some countries are sending plattons to Sri lanka for training....
