The executive committee of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has decided to suspend the former national coach and the current coach of Renown Sports Club Mohammed Amanulla from all forms of football activity.
The Federation in a press statement yesterday said that its Council at a meeting on Wednesday unanimously decided to suspend Amunulla with immediate effect on charges of malicious public statements to bring disrepute to the Football Federation.
The FFLS president Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara speaking to the Daily Mirror said that Amanulla was suspended pending the outcome of an inquiry against him over remarks he made in a press interview in which he accused the Football Federation of squandering funds and neglecting the needs of players.
“If there was anything wrong he should have told us first before going to the press and making statements”, said Weerasekera.
He said that the Federation supported Amanulla in so many ways. “At one time he was banned for life for assaulting a referee and the Federation lifted the ban and helped him go on overseas tours”, said Weerasekera.
