Mervyn sacked

10 August 2010 03:18 pm - 71     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

A A A
The government announced a short while ago that Deputy Minister Mervyn Silva has been removed from his post in the government following a disciplinary inquiry held this evening over his recent conduct.

Government sources further added that Silva has also been removed from the membership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Silva tied a Samurdhi officer to a mango tree last week over the failure by the officer to attend a dengue prevention programme in Kelaniya.

The move caused island wide protests by Samurdhi officers who demanded the government to take legal action against the Deputy Minister.

SUDESH KARUNATHILAKE Tuesday, 10 August 2010 05:31 PM

Dr. Mervin is a straight-forward politician. He is 100% better than other two-faced politicians. This will be not his end. He will be back with a 'new episode,' soon!

    sujith Wednesday, 11 August 2010 04:22 AM

This is to please the gallery, another tactic by MR

    crazy Tuesday, 10 August 2010 05:56 PM

    Is this another role play?

    NCK Tuesday, 10 August 2010 06:05 PM

The 'backbone' of the SLFP, at village level, comprises these 'samurdhi' officers. That is the reason why the government took this decision, at this juncture.

    Meeya Wednesday, 11 August 2010 01:58 PM

Aney Paw Mervyn! I am so sad. I wish if he can find another job!

    Jay Wednesday, 11 August 2010 02:04 PM

Now Mr. President show the world you have courage and release Sarath Fonseka...if you have the guts?

Martin Thoma Tuesday, 10 August 2010 06:25 PM

Perhaps MR might find him another job, more lucrative than the current one.

    Alfred Tuesday, 10 August 2010 06:48 PM

Mervin should start a 'fast unto death' now, so that the government can call him back!

    Agent Zer08 Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:14 PM

    News of the year!

    James Wednesday, 11 August 2010 09:22 AM

I strongly agree with this statement.

    senra Tuesday, 10 August 2010 08:03 PM

However, this incident must remind us of the utter inefficiency and corruption of government workers, whose overblown cadres are being maintained by public funds!

    Delgoda Tuesday, 10 August 2010 08:09 PM

A poor decision by MR! The 'Dr.' might have been wrong before, but on this point, he is correct! Our government servants are not angels. They need to be taught a lesson! Hope 'Dr.' will be back!

    izzy Tuesday, 10 August 2010 08:13 PM

    Our next presidential candidate?

    Lahiru Tuesday, 10 August 2010 08:38 PM

This may sound funny but I have a feeling that Mervin did the right thing, this time! Otherwise how on earth are we going to teach a lesson to all the corrupted government servants?

    Jason Tuesday, 10 August 2010 08:55 PM

    Will he crossover?

    Janapala Tuesday, 10 August 2010 10:06 PM

    - I think the government should read these comments. There is a lot to learn ...

    Chamal Wednesday, 11 August 2010 10:33 AM

IS IT ONLY FOR THE TME BEING

    DONGA Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:21 PM

    Some sense at the end

    Handipora Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:28 PM

If they had not done this their own day of getting sacked would not have been very far.

    Roshan Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:28 PM

Wow. If this is true, it's proof MR finally has the backbone to stand up to corrupt, power hungry thugs.

    Dr.P Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:28 PM

A move in the right direction....bravo! May there be law & order in Sri Lanka!

    Ranjana Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:29 PM

Lanka Atapattu Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:31 PM

    Poor Mervin

    Shazak - Dubai. Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:32 PM

    Bala Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:33 PM
