United National Part Colombo district parliamentarian Moha Lal Grero has threatned to resign as the organiser of the Rathmalana electorate unless the mayoral post for the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia municipal council is kept open.
The United National Party made clear indications to the effect that Wickramasinghe loyalist and former minister of health Sunethra Ranasinghe would be appointed mayor in the event of a UNP victory. Ranasinghe is the current mayor of the municipal council.

    the word is democracy......................

The UNP has no hopes of winning the Dehiwala Mt. Lavinia municipal council this time round. The problems the residents have to face with their garbage disposal will deter even the die hard UNP supporters from casting their vote. The DMMC only collects the garbage along the main road and from various business establishments who probably pay them to do so. Some of the staff openly demand money from residents to have their garbage collected.

    Big deal who cares?

    sulaiman Saturday, 27 August 2011 09:33 AM

As a UNP voter @ Dehiwala I welcome move .I think main reason for decrease vote base at this MMC area is inefficiency of organiser & incumbent mayor Welcome Keep it open

it's a myth that 'No one can challenge Ranil' lets get to-gether to challenge the Weak Political Leader who wants to be on the Opposition & the looser for ever. What wrong other UNP's done to be on the loosing side always??

    Manujer Saturday, 27 August 2011 09:55 AM

Garbage is a minor issue when compared to other matters. Corrupt rulers of this country don't let to do what DMMC want to do, particularly in disposing garbage off. Intelligent people understand this.

Is Ranil vying for the Guiness World Record for " the most consecutive election losses by a political leader "?

UNP MISMANAGEMT DMMC 25 YEARS,PEOPLE AREA HAD BEEN NEGELECTED ,ROADS NOT MOTOTABLE,GABAGE COLLECTION NOT REGULAR,MUNCIPILITY OFFICE ALL UNORGNIZED,RAMPAT COURRUPTION,FROM MAYOR TO DOWNWARD,NO DRANAGE SYSTEM ALL,RAINY DAYS ARAE IS LIKE PADDY FEILD,LARGE AMOUNT TAX COLLECTED FROM AS TAX PAYERS,,NO RETRUN ,TAX PAYERS..UNP SUPPORTS PROVIDE ODD JOBS,ONLY SIGNATURE TO ATTENTENCE BOOK OR TIME CARD,OFFICERS NOT ON DUTYPOINT..UNP VOTERS GIVE FREE CHEQUE BOOK FOR SUNATAHA RANSINGHE.
DO YOU WANT TO ELECTED SAME TEAM AGAIN ANOTHER TERM?

    CEEDEEBEE Sunday, 28 August 2011 04:05 AM

The UNP will not win anything while the Party is so publicly split, and sadly if they cannot resolve their internal squabbles, how can the electorate expect them to resolve local problems, or if they ever get into power again, international problems.

Lal Medawatte Sunday, 28 August 2011 06:00 AM

Sad to see someone in the quality of Grero too become involved in ‘position politics’ rather than putting his efforts for UNP win at the elections. Squabbling has started even before winning the elections. What a shameful situation. This clearly is an indication that UNP today is a vastly disorganized unit without any control or ground rules

    dear all reformists,
    please leave the party.
you are the group that provide food for government which is in critical state.
from my point of view,if one group of people can change the leadership of a party by protesting,it is a bad picture not only for the future leaders but also for the world.
in other hand we should accept that mr.ranil wickramasinghe takes some stubborn decision which damage the party.but as n intellectual people we all believe that for that stubborn decision can't be reversed by those kind of pointless protests and "thovil".

DONT SAY GARBAGE IS A MINOR ISSUE, IT IS A BIG ISSUE FOR SOME RESIDENTS. I AM FROM ANDERSON ROAD (MAIN ROAD) KALUBOWILA & THE GARBAGE LORRY HAS NOT COME FOR THE LAST 2 DAYS. EVEN IF THEY COME, THERE IS NO SPECIFIC TIME. THEY COME ALL OF A SUDDEN, PICK UP WHATEVER THEY FIND ON THE ROAD AND GO AWAY. THEY DON'T KNOCK THE DOORS AND ASK FOR GARBAGE. SOME TIMES MY SERVANT HAS TO WAIT OUT FOR HOURS, TILL THE LORRY COMES. THE PRESENT MAYORESS IS TOTALLY INEFFICIENT TO HANDLE THIS ISSUE.

    ind Monday, 29 August 2011 03:52 AM

When there is not leadership, there's in one way its democracy as no one take clear decisions.
