In a response to the claim by MP Bandula Gunawardane that the Mathematics paper of the GCE O/L Examination was too difficult for students, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that he would inform the Examination Department and do justice for the students if there was a common issue.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said they were not hesitant to solve any issues in the Government examinations.

“Examination papers are not made to answer with ease. They are there to test the competency of the candidates. However, in the said incident, if a majority of students claimed that the paper was too difficult and allocated time was not sufficient, I will consider it and inform the Department of Examination with necessary instructions,” Kariyawasam said. Am a O/L student from C.S.I The maths GCE O/L paper was harder but manageable . And the time duration was unfair .We are educated but we r not lecturers ...

Sri Lanka education system needs complete overhaul with internationally accepted norms. Students must be able identify their strengths and weaknesses and accordingly select their career parts. Making an examination too hard does not bring desired results.

am a o/l student .this year English gce o/l exam paper don't have graph and dialogue....why this year paper method so bad ..science paper don't have any past paper question ...

Last year Science and Maths paper was very easy. It is major discrimination for this year's O/L students when comparing with last years paper. Even 1 clever boy commit suicide, before releasing results few days ago. Before printing paper department should maintain same level of difficulty for every years paper. Otherwise very injustice forstudents. All were expected this time paper may be very difficult because last year science and maths were easy.

In last AL papers too time was a issue for all engineering stream subjects as many were difficult to overcome the questions asked as testers were not testing the subjects, but students as to to under go difficulties to understand the meaning of the difficult words asked in sinhala. Was it the same for papers in Tamil? I hope next time if the testers are smart in sinhala language, at least they must give the meaning of difficult words in a bracket in English. dramatically decreased. Over to you minister?

I asked this from a O/L maths teacher. What she said was compared to the question paper of 2015, 2017 paper was not difficult. She said there was nothing that has not been covered by the curriculum. According to her that there was one geomatry question which would have taken more time for students to answer and many students must have found it difficult to solve within the time period given to them to answer the entire paper.

I faced the paper and it was hard since its normal to every students to say that but in real specific questions were hard and i think we need justice for the paper

I discussed this with some teachers who worked as examiners on the day. They said some girl students had tears on their eyes after they finished the maths paper because the exam was too difficult for them. Many of the students went home helpless as there was no one to hear hear their grievances. Will the authority feel the mentality of the students ?? God knows.

My daughter said ' The maths paper was difficult , but can manage , the time was not enough to do the paper II. But I went through the paper, it was hard.
