Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the Ministry of Law and Order and Southern Development to report back to him just how university students were able to climb four storeys into the Ministry of Health building without the police being able to stop them.

This came about after he was informed by several ministers that the police did nothing to stop the students protesting against SAITM from getting into the Health Ministry building and causing so much damage to equipment and vehicles belonging to the ministry thereafter.

The PM had also asked the authorities to send him a report on the total cost of the destruction caused as a result of this invasion into the Health Ministry by the protesting students. (Anjula Mahika Weeraratna)

Mr.Kumara, you are sadly mistaken. You need a cool headed person for this job.The present minister is the right person. This is not a war with the terrorist in the north.Manifestation is the only way for the people to show their grievances against a very unstable gouvernement.Secondly Mr.Fonseka dose not have a good trac record during the army period.

    Keerthi Ramanayake (Attorney-at-Law) Friday, 23 June 2017 10:16 AM

Hon. PM, you yourself found that our Police Department is weak and the IGP is not suitable, hence sack him and replace with someone who will not bow down to Politicians.

Kadupol Jothywansa Friday, 23 June 2017 10:14 AM

Aladeniya Kirimathaya Friday, 23 June 2017 10:12 AM

Sir, you are asking for a detailed report of the damage caused for the Health Ministry, Why ???? Are you going to claim from the University Students.

    Dr. A.C.B. Jayaweera Friday, 23 June 2017 10:10 AM

Hon Prime Minister you should have first asked the IGP what was he and his department did when the arrest warrant was twice issued to Ven. Gnanasara Thera.

TREE CLIMBERS Friday, 23 June 2017 10:03 AM

" able to climb four storeys into the Ministry of Health building " -- just goes to show that our Z score ones are more apt to climbing coconut trees (for their living) than forcing themselves to follow lectures (which most do not understand) and pass out without much in their grey cells. -- and finally become a burden to society (unless of course they take to politics and equally make a fool of themselves)

    Snowy Friday, 23 June 2017 10:02 AM

Yes, this is what we too want to know. Where was the most wanted guy hiding and why was he not arrested? Who was protecting him? We want answers and not jokes.

De Silva Friday, 23 June 2017 10:01 AM

He should have asked his Minister to resign over this issue.

Ronnie Bugger Friday, 23 June 2017 09:59 AM

So the Prime Minister wants nothing but reports which will eventually gather dust. He wants one report from his own good for nothing and lame duck Law and Order man who knows next to nothing about law and order which is just to camouflage and another report on the extent and cost to the damage done, another camouflage. Own up Mr. Prime Minister, pull up your socks or roll up your sleeves and get down to the nitty gritty of things.

Kumara Dharmarathne Friday, 23 June 2017 09:57 AM

PM, we informed you several times that Police,Law and Order Minister was not capable of handling the ministry effectively and efficiently. Please replace the ministry with FM Sarath Fonseka. He is the most suitable person available for the position today. If these guys engage in destructive activities like this, how are you going to concentrate on sustainable development of the country. Hope you will think about this very seriously and do the needful.
