Commenting on the current political developments in Sri Lanka, UK Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field has said the position of the UK is that it recognises states and not governments.

He has said this in response to a question asked by Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry on Monday whether the British Government recognises Ranil Wickremesinghe or Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

State Minister Field said they were deeply concerned by the political situation in Sri Lanka.

“I have called on all parties to ensure that the constitution is respected and due political and legal process upheld. On October 29, I made a public statement urging the President, in consultation with the Speaker, to reconvene parliament immediately to give the democratically elected representatives of the Sri Lankan people their voice,” he said.

Democratically elected representatives doesn't represent the people elected anymore. They sell them selves for huge values and does exactly the opposite of what is wished by the people elected them. They do not want to change this system since they benifit either way. Its people need to change it and make sure to defeat any minister that crosses over to any other party other than they got elected for.

UK should keep out of Sri lankan Domestic Problems of Sri Lanka. What the President has done is kept to the wishes of the people on 10th February 2018 at the Local government elections where People wanted the PJP led by Mahinda Rajapakse. This is the time Government elected in August 2015 should have resigned. and asked MR to form a new government,What we need is a new parliamentary elections held with MR as PM under a caretaker Government. This is what any decent government in europe or UK would have done. Remember Camaron resigned as PM after a vote for Briext which he did not support won the vote of the people. Labour too did not support so the queen the head of parliament had no alternative but to appoint May to carry out the wishes of the people. Constitutions are only a piece of paper. Vote of people is sovereign not the present 4 year old parliament .

    channa Thursday, 08 November 2018 12:34 PM

Then don't waste money by having so many electiins. One election is enough to appoint members for the local government, provincial council and parliament.

    vaz Thursday, 08 November 2018 03:44 PM

Shouldn't the bribery commission interested on the the money transactions for the cross over?
