We'll inform President about health minister

8 June 2017 08:42 pm - 38     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said today it would inform President Maithripala Sirisena about Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne's unethical behaviour when handling various matters.

GMOA Secretary Naveen De Soyza said the minister had violated the World Health Organization (WHO) rules and the regulations.

“Instead of supporting the victims of floods and landslides, the Health Ministry has appointed the head of one of the dairy product companies to head the Health Ministry's Disaster Management Centre,” he said and added that the GMOA had set up some 500 health camps countrywide to treat those affected but the minister had been unable to set up even a single health camp.

Dr. De Soyza said GMOA had not been invited by the Health Ministry to yesterday's internship ceremony for the newly-passed out doctors.

“Traditionally trade unions attached to the medical sector were invited to this function but the GMOA was not invited despite being the main trade union which represents the government medical officers,” he said adding that this might have been over a grudge with the GMOA.(Kalathma Jayawardhane)

Freddy Yong Friday, 09 June 2017 01:12 PM

Do not try to update the President. He does not entertain 'sneakers' or 'kelang karayas". He has his own intelligence methods from whom he gets all he needs. So simply can it, you good for nothing doctors.

Planning for another strike??, as if you all are sticking to the WHO rules.

    Mahila Thursday, 08 June 2017 09:47 PM

Traditionally the GMOA as a trade union did not take trade union action by having 24 hour or rolling strikes of the districts strike in the past due to something relating to Medical students. They did not resort to strikes when SAITM was started during the last govt. So the traditions have been broken by the GOMA by resorting to strikes on a matter or grievance not related to GMOA. So why do you think that the Minister may have a grudge against the GMOA? If so, as a responsible TU why don't you address and resolve it amicably

    Sunil Thursday, 08 June 2017 09:48 PM

Look who is talking about Ethical Practices!! Dr. Kahandaliyanage has already explained the position- there is nothing unethical about his appointment. GMOA should know what their limits are and restrict it's activities to the protection of it's profession and members. They have no business in running the country.

    John Saturday, 10 June 2017 11:48 AM

Yes, they should display their GMOA 'Badge', to experience wrath of the public who serve them daily?!

    kondaya77 Thursday, 08 June 2017 09:49 PM

GMOA not only disgrace, but weaving spider web for unsuspecting minister higher education who has mandated the ERPM for SAITM.. How can any sit ERPM Act 16 without an SLMC recognized MBBS. SLMC rebellion is to crush SAITM which MBBS they say is forever unrecognizable. Is that a function of SLMC supervision. Then how can they even offer ERPM? SLMC/GMOA web is a maniacal pill.

    Ranjitdea Friday, 09 June 2017 04:09 AM

It's the patient's rights group that should be invited to this type of ceremonies. Patient is the most important in healthcare.

    C.K.Lankaputhra. Friday, 09 June 2017 06:01 AM

Health Minister is absolutely correct. Why should he invite a set of people who risk the life of innocent patients. How many may have died due to their unfair strikes.

    Roy Friday, 09 June 2017 06:13 AM

GMOA is the arm tell the doctors to do politics leaving the innocent patients to suffer

    Siripala Friday, 09 June 2017 06:24 AM

Rajitha was right. Why the government has to get trade unions involved everywhere. Now it seems this trade union is trying to become a Presidential advisor.Tax payers spent money to make doctors to treat them, but not to do politics.

    sy Friday, 09 June 2017 06:29 AM

You think you can set one against the other? This seems to be your next move, you are a disgrace to the medical profession.

    AjithZ Friday, 09 June 2017 06:52 AM

Setting up health camps at a time of a natural disaster like floods is your responsibility. If not done, you guys should be shot. Then, even if you were invited to the passing out ceremony, you would have boycotted it most likely. Said that, health minister also must make an effort to work with you guys. Else the country specifically the poor will suffer.

    MyLanka Friday, 09 June 2017 06:57 AM

You are GOVERNMENT medical officers. So Prof De Zoysa, you work for the government, in case you have forgotten. WHO will be very happy to know about your unethical behaviour and your violation of the rules and regulations.

    Art Friday, 09 June 2017 11:50 AM

Those of you who are honest govt. doctors, high time you start a HGMOA - Honest GMOA.
