Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is said to be of the opinion that excise duty hike for vehicles under 1000cc engine capacity should be confined to a specific period of time had informed the Ministry of Finance to let him know as to when it could bring down the excise duty.

Sources close to Prime Minister said he had made this inquiry following the observation that had been made by finance ministry officials that the excise duty hike is an unpopular move as the government is being criticized for the hike already.

Also, others have advised the government that drastic increase of small cars with low capacity engines has given rise to a crisis where the traffic congestion is concerned. Further, it was reported that the expediting light train project will reduce this problem. (Yohan Perera)

Like always, you and President conveniently are in slumber when important legislations and laws take place and then like pimps say "I was not informed". Further you lot want double wages for this bullshit performance.

    umen Friday, 03 August 2018 03:30 PM

Hey man, what about the pay hike (200% ) to ministers, deputy ministers, state ministers and MPs. What is the period. Is is Zero / Zero or Infinity?

    Unchikun Friday, 03 August 2018 09:36 AM

Do not worry sir, we understand the need for the Increase. It is to supplement MPs salaried and the duty they do not pay for the luxury cars imported. It is disgusting to see the cars that transport these jerks.

    sathees Friday, 03 August 2018 09:37 AM

President and PM don't have a clue to the policy of the government. By the way is there any policy at all?

    Arnold Friday, 03 August 2018 09:40 AM

There is no decent public transport and the cars are too expensive to buy and to maintain. What are we supposed to do Hon Mr. Wickremesinghe?? Tell us how are we supposed to go about and do our jobs and pay taxes to keep your fellow politicians enjoying their lives to the max??

They clearly know that they are going to lose, therefore attempt to plunder the country as much as possible. Plundering public property would not harm anybody either in the camps of Rajapaksa, Sirisena or Ranil. So they work overtime as days are numbered. Do we let previous thieves return, people are in dilemma?

    Ajja Friday, 03 August 2018 05:04 PM

No Light train Projects(talks only no action),No improvement to Main roads packed with Three wheeler and buses but robbing poor peoples money to cover up their sins.I am waiting till an election comes to kick this government off the hill..

    Upul Friday, 03 August 2018 05:20 PM

You are a big talker Mr. PM. Now you are talking about a LRT (light rail transit) system. Nobody believes you now, because of the things or promises you have given in past has never come to light.

    Citizen Friday, 03 August 2018 05:56 PM

Without doubt this is the most incompetent govt we have ever had.

    umen Saturday, 04 August 2018 11:29 AM

No, we had one in 2001-2003, people brought him to power again

    Sambo Friday, 03 August 2018 07:51 PM

Mr. Prime minister you are forcing the people to bring the devil back into power by your stupid decisions. This time you are going to loose with a higher majority. See you around after about 25 years or so.

    Ozman Friday, 03 August 2018 09:10 PM

Hari Mani Friday, 03 August 2018 09:18 PM

    Jona Saturday, 04 August 2018 11:14 AM

Do you wanna know the real reason? Now guys look at how many wagon R s lying infront of each car seller's yards. What happened was greedy car dealers brought down many WagonR s thinking they could easily sell, but it didn't happened. Now on the other hand when they competing in the auctions in Japan, prices went up significantly and yen was also high. Now on the contrary, auction prices tend to come down and at the same time yen is also dropping. Thus cost for the new importer is dropping gradually. Now people are more educated and used to import their own vehicle without a hassle. Simply the reason is cost of lying vehicle is much higher than the new imports. So FM
