The United National Party (UNP) has reportedly decided to re-nominate Regional Development Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka as Law and Order Minister, it is learnt.
When the UNP nominated him to the post the first time it was turned down by President Maithripala Sirisena. Thereafter, the UNP sought to assign the subject to another member of the party but no one was ready to accept it.
Against this backdrop, the party had taken a decision to re-submit his name to the President. Already, SLFP ministers had been against appointing Mr. Fonseka to this post a sentiment shared by many senior police officers.(Kelum Bandara)

Seems, UNP never want to unearth the truth of the fate of late lasantha wickramatunge. Remember what Joseph Michel and Ranil Wickramasinghe said in parliament with regard to lasantha killing?

Why are people afraid of SF? Is it because he may clean up some of the criminal activities? Give him a go to implement a clean government and turn the country for everybody to have a decent life. not only the people who have power.
Citizen Monday, 05 March 2018 03:05 PM
Law and order minister ideally should have demonstrated integrity, fairness etc, which I don't seen in SF. He has an axe to grind which is a dangerous situation for such an important portfolio. SF will be like a bull in a china shop unfortunately.

Dear President And PM we expect you to clean the country from Drugs, Corruptions and also expects of allowing peace loving people to live peace and harmony. Please give this ministry to a person Who has a proper backbone. Otherwise you to will go to Aweechiya as you said previous days due to abetting and allowing cruel Drug dealers to kill the innocent Children and Sinhalese nations. Remember we do not have american citizenship like others flee from Sri Lanka

Mr. PresidentYou promised the whole nation to clean the country from corruptions. Now show your true colors and appoint SF as the Law and Order Minister. In 2015 Jan8 the main expectation from you were to make this nation corruption free and also catch all wrong dowers. Isnt it the same thing you promised fee weeks ago prior to the local government election? If you do this, you can at least talk about eliminating corruption when you leave this office in 2020.

This is good news. The law and order of Sri Lanka is in shambles. Now is the time to get it back on course. Now we can see as to who is trying to project the rouges from the last regime. Where is that sword? All rust?
sehan Monday, 05 March 2018 09:57 AM
Now people should understand whos protecting whom, most of those SLFP and opposition are henchmen of MR and buglers, they don't want a strong LO minister. This is the reason why they wanted RW changed after the last election .it was also a false propaganda that RW involved in the bond scam but the report says otherwise. however, people of Srilanka are ever fools, easy to betrayed by the greedy henchmen of MR with a bottle of alcohol or a racist comment.wake up people

He is the most suitable for the position.
Nuwan Monday, 05 March 2018 10:05 AM
Dear Mr. President,Please don't try to protect criminals. This task should have been given to SF long back. If you want to clean up the mess give it to a person who has proved himself. Everyone knows of his credibility, he's the best man for the job

Why should the President listen to top Police officer's permission, it is like getting permission from the student when appointing the Teacher or asking the teachers before appointing the Principal. President should have back bone.
Omg Monday, 05 March 2018 01:21 PM
The police should listen to president, not prez listen to police for.whom to appoint. The public voted for you and we demand for this appointment. What are you waiting for Xmas? Unp demanding and slfp is disregarding , so public should get the facts corrected.
Hiran Monday, 05 March 2018 01:24 PM
The President dont have the backbone to appoint SF. He is too concerned about protecting the crooks in the SLFP and members of the previous regime.
DG Monday, 05 March 2018 02:58 PM
UNP must insist on this and win public support. Time is running out to show results. Recent reshuffle was a comedy.

Good move
Citizen Perera Monday, 05 March 2018 05:40 PM
SF should sit in President's chair...this is the only way to have a discipline society in srilanka..
kalinga Monday, 05 March 2018 06:07 PM
UNP should write an open letter to president to appoint SF as the law and order minister, then people can understand who is protecting thieves.
