Travis Sinniah promoted to Admiral

The outgoing Navy Commander Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah has been promoted to the rank of Admiral.

Navy spokesman Commander Lankanatha Dissanayake said President Maithripala Sirisena had promoted Travis Sinniah to the Admiral post with effect from Wednesday.

He was appointed as the 21 st Commander of the Navy on August 18 and his term was extended by one month by the President when he turned 55 on September 26.

Admiral Sinniah has rendered a noble service to the Navy during his 35 years of unblemished naval career.

Navy said Admiral Sinniah joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1982 as an Officer Cadet of the 11th intake and rendered an exceptional service to the country.(Darshana Sanjeewa)

I hate to think on narrow ethnic lines ..but hearkening to think that there were high ranking officers in the forces of the minority group in the height of the civil war that beat the drums of discrimination ..All good luck to you Sir ..may you have strength to maintain the security of our blessed isle .

Adm. Ranasinghe should have been appointed COfN to begin with. Adm. Sinniah retired from the Navy on his own accord, and had no issue with the then government. There was no political victimisation as claimed. Had he stayed, he would have been made commander anyway. This government has made a mess of things and caused much humiliation to this veteran soldier.
