Because the government was keen to sell the Hambantota Harbour that it claimed it was a white elephant, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.

He said people are aware as to how many ships arrive at the Hambantota Port.

“When the two ships seized by the port employees departed another two arrived,” Mr. Rajapaksa said.
He said his government earned a sufficient income from the port during his tenure and that there was not plan to sell it to foreigners.

Mr. Rajapaksa said during his tenure 24 flights arrived weekly at the Mattala Airport but it was reduced to one by the present government and the warehouse given to Paddy Marketing Board to insult the then government.

If it is a worthless white elephant why china keen to buy that ? because they have a plan to develop and make it profitable. if there is no any potential with that harbor, china would not buy.

How many ships arrives and left for these 6 days from Hambantotha? Two ships arrived as you state. Well that is a lot for a sea port. Do not hoodwink the people. Enough is enough.

These words are sweet to the ear. What a great project it was. Can we shift the Colombo port to Hambantota too. Too many Maruti cars in the city now.

H'tota ports could have been developed. But Mattala airport was only useful had you been in power for your relatives and henchmen to use.

The government was wrong to call Hambantota Port a White elephant. It should have been called a Pink Elephant. The 24 flights that have supposedly arrived at Mattala Airport either did not pay any dues or paid them directly to the Rajapakses, because the airport was insolvent when Mahinda Rajapakse left the government.

H'total port became a white elephant because of its actual cost of construction your commission.

    Sandun Friday, 16 December 2016 10:18 PM

Rajapakse's various video bytes should be news only if he says anything constructive or positive. He is completely partisan and goes on idiotic rants regularly and it's crazy that it makes the news.
