Thewarapperuma angered by rehearsal

A tense situation prevailed outside the Galewela District Hospital today when Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma forcibly attended a rehearsal by the hospital authorities to make people aware of dealing with road accidents.

The Galewela Divisional Secretariat, the Disaster Management Centre in Matale and the hospital had organised this rehearsal and they had simulated a road accident where two buses had collided and ten people were injured.

The deputy minister who was on his way to Polonnaruwa had witnessed the incident and had volunteered to take the injured to hospital in his official vehicle.

Only then had he had got to know from the official at the vicinity that it was a rehearsal.

The deputy minister had turned furious and slammed the officials for making fun of such incidents when the country was facing in the throes of major floods.

He had ordered the organisers to hold such rehearsals indoors and vowed to take legal action against them.

This resulted in the hospital authorities deciding to call off the rehearsal. (Mohamed Buharrudeen)

And also yes, the country is facing a natural disaster now and its better to hold those events indoor. Or at places like public playgrounds rather than having it on the road.

A high position given to a person who is unsuitable to hold such a position would not know how to handle it. Such a person would destroy not only himself but people around him as well. Some times we have to very proud of our law makers. However I must admit that unlike big bellied politician he has helped his votes in numerous ways when they were in trouble. He is a street fitter for number of occasions and may be very useful to his own community. That is why his voters voted and selected him. If you look at the American President, he also behave in the similar manner but in in different scale. DT has very serious charges of different scale but our man has not.

The deputy minister was correct in principle. Rehearsals should not be organized during crisis situations. Usually, no military training sessions are conducted during a war. The minister could have spoken to those who have done this rehearsal in a nicer way and convinced them that the time was wrong for such exercise.
