Five suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the theft of the Ranamayura’ Golden Peacock Award of the late filmmaker Dr Lester James Peries that was stolen from his residence.
The award was stolen on Wednesday morning while his funeral service was in progress.
However, it was found on an overhead rack of a Kollupitiya-Kaduwela private bus on Saturday.
Investigation revealed that the suspects had abandoned the award at the bus because of fear that they would be arrested as the incident was given publicity through the media. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

Our nation has become a disgrace to the entire world and we boast that we have a culture!!! Schools should have an extra subject as to how to live amongst co-existence from keeping ourselves from theft free, loving our environment as we would keep our homes and garden clean, loving our neighbors as we love ourselves and our families...... These are to be done from the bud, awareness! We as nation would go to drain with our future generation, if these are not taught in school as parents now are in a rat race to earn a living!!!

Sadly the great nobleman's legacy upon he's departure was overshadowed by the Theft, And the Award claims to have the most news headlines. Not the individual but the peacock.

Does not matter what ethic or religious groups Sri lankans are, or their social or professional status. They steal. Look at the PM, leader of a gang of bank robbers. Finance minister a robber from the Central bank. Basil one big rogue. What else do you expect from small crooked criminals. Kids go to sunday schools and church schools or mosque schools where they are taught not to steal, kill or rape, and sri lanka is full of these criminals. The whole nation need their DNA to be laundered; that is the answer but not practical. If not give them the maximum punishment. Look at this example. A poor man keeping half a gram of drugs gets death by hanging. The prime minister that is a leader of bank robbers worth mega billions goes free and gets a another chance because it is the gang of robbers in the parliament that has given him a vote of confidence. Abuddhassa Kaaley!
