IGP Pujith Jayasundara had ordered stern action against the OIC of the Pitigala Police Station and other officers following the death of a suspect in a remand cell at the Police station today, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
44-year-old Magodapathirage Hemavipul was found dead inside the Police cell this afternoon. The Police arrested the suspect in connection with a family dispute at Marakgoda.
“The Police believe that the suspect had committed suicide in the cell,” he said.
IGP Pujith Jayasundara instructed investigations into the matter and to take stern disciplinary action against the OIC and other officers.
He said the officers on duty at the Police station had failed to fulfill their duty while the suspect was in custody.

It looks Sri Lankan Police are not fit for purpose, sack all of them and gradually start from scratch.Politicians are so involved in fraud they fear to act against the police and that makes Sri Lankan Police UNTOUCHABLES.
