The body of a Sri Lankan woman, who had worked as a housemaid in Saudi Arabia, will be repatriated within two weeks following the issuance of the postmortem report, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said yesterday.
The woman, Priyantha Jayasekara (38), was shot dead by a Saudi national on March 10 in Buraidah and the suspect later committed suicide.
SLBFE Internal Affairs Additional General Manager W.M.V. Wansekara told Daily Mirror that the Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia continually visited the crime scene to keep track on the progress of investigations.
“The authorities that concluded the postmortem were now waiting for the final report which will take another two weeks. It is only then they will decide on a date to release the body. We will assist in bringing back the body to Sri Lanka. The officials attached to the embassy had requested the authorities to expedite devising the final report,” he said.
Meanwhile, Foreign Employment Minister Harin Fernando and Foreign Employment Deputy Minister Manusha Nanayakkara who recently visited the residence of the deceased assured to secure the future of her children. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

I am a Jaffna Tamil residing in the USA and I see the Sri Lankan professionals over here, both the Tamils and Sinhalese, holding top positions in Research,Universities HighTech industries,Law,and Finance. But then looking at the sterile Arab countries all we see are Sri Lankan women working as maids and servents to the rags to riches Arabs.A self respecting society wouldn’t allow its women to be transported as maids to foreign land.

Jeyendran - have you been to sl over the lt ten years. Youths specially north and east have no jobs. No big factories to work, no international airports nor big harbours to provide employment. They beg relatives who have gone abroad to send money for existence. ME is the only country to provide visa for domestic help.usa/uk/Canada won't give visa.so what do you expect? They have to survive. You are lucky to live abroad.Malar

It is very regrettable that this has happened to Ms. Jayasekera my thoughts are with the family who have lost a loved one. I hope that the government honours their promise to the family. It is OK for educated persons residing Western Countries to pass comment about Sri Lankan ladies working as house maids. Not every one is as fortunate enough to get the education and knowledge. It will be useful to understand the individual circumstances of the poor families who's only route to better themselves may be going to the middle east. Whilst we may hear about the these cases in the papers no one reports tens of thousands of families have benefited from taking up employment in the Middle East. Most people go out of necessities such as better education for the children, better housing family etc. Most parents forego a lot in an effort to give their children
