SAITM founder Dr. Neville Fernando said that as the SAITM Institute was abolished by President Maithripala Sirisena the staff should ask him for their salaries.
“There is no academic activity at SAITM since it was abolished. So, there isn’t any need for staff. As there is no income I’m unable to pay them. The staff should ask their salaries from the President, who took the decision to abolish the institution,” he said.
SAITM in an announcement issued on August 4, 2017, halted student intake, however, it had paid the staff until May.
According to an employee, academic staff salaries had been paid until the month of May while other staff cadres were not paid their July salary.
They said that since the beginning Dr. Fernando had managed the business in an arbitrary manner and even though a financial crisis existed Dr. Fernando had attempted to hire the remaining staff making false promises that their salaries would be paid.
They stressed that although Dr. Fernando had no money to pay their salaries as he had started a business in Hokandara. The disturbed employees added that SAITM should follow the standard protocols when closing down a business by compensating them before sending them home. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

See Neville's annual accounts before abolishing, it must show minus according to staff. So Neville must compensate his employees. It's a BOI company right?

Lacking of a proper dispute resolution institute in SL is the main cause of issues alike.( Fair work and Victorian tribunal is a model for SL to follow)I doubt it will ever happen in SL

The present government, GMO and the Anthare is totally responsible for this mess. Since the government abolished it, the government should pay a suitable compensation for the students and to the academic staff. This is one of the most negative decisions taken by this government. The parents and students were treated like criminals along with Mr. Fernando. The staff too had to face the consequences. What a pathetic situation.

SITIM abolishment, is happy to hear. There was a mess, confusion, obstruction and confusion of studies, which existed for some years causing confusion to numerous students and parents. There was too much on the press. Not hearing anything about the word SAITM, will make every body feel stress free and give time to even sleep confortably, thinking and planning a bright future. In Sri Lanka education and university, were very good and well planned with a good future. Now things have changed, students are doing their A-levels and running away to other countrie for their education.
