The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said today it was not too optimistic about the Presidential Committee Report on SAITM on the basis that the report contradicted the committee’s recommendations.
It said the committee report contained grave errors and the GMOA had appointed its own committee to study the entire report of the presidential committee before arriving at a final decision.
GMOA Secretary Haritha Aluthge told a news conference the committee had concluded that SAITM had stopped student enrollment and therefore there is no reason why it repeats that recommendation.
“Even though the committee says SAITM has stopped student enrollment, Dr Neville Fernando told a newspaper that he has accepted 300 more applications. GMOA had earlier requested the authorities to issue a legal order banning student enrolment until this matter is resolved,” he said. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

GMOA 'sob's can attend independent institutes in US, UK etc to get their post-grad studies but GMOA and the JO are doing everything to screw those students who failed A-levels by just a few Z score points from doing the same in Sri Lanka. In doing so they also screw the poor patients. I am surprised why the Govt can not counter the GMOA by educating the masses.

GMOA worried that annual intake of SAITM of 300 and more from any future private medical college will eat up their private practice and their strength in the Trade Union.

Can't all these GMOA officials be subjected to mental assessment?

only country that MO union is involved in medical governing body that should be independent? hence even these MO vultures kill people by striking no one is there to take action against them as they are part of medical governing body. the need of the hour is change the constitute of Medical Governing body of Sri Lanka like other countries no one attached to medicine , Politics then they can take impartial action.

The GMOA thugs should be locked up either in prison or in a mental hospital so that the medical students can attend lectures and get on with their studies and complete their degrees and hopefully serve our country.

These low IQ ,GMOA gon thadiyas don't realise that all these medical students and their parents are waiting for the day for to see them passing out as doctors, to become independant and earn a living and curing sick people which is their primary aim. At this rate the not only the patients but students also will pass away and not pass out!!

GMOA is worried about losing their private tuition given to overseas graduates to sit for former Act 16 or present EPRM exam.

Anyway no difference now. Well before report out you all were opposing the committee. So what's the difference now? It also noticed that a set of SAITM supporters are waiting for any GMOA comments to counter attacked GMOA.

Government must always think and act in the interest of the country as a whole and not for the small groups of people of county(doctors/students/unions). The government alone never can develop education and health sector in sri Lanka and so private sector contribution is essential. If SAITAM is abolished it will obviously be a death blow to investments in the sector and so governments should never do that. Government can resolve reasonable demands of the doctors and students.

The crux of the issue is that GMOA thugs are worried about medical doctors passing out of private medical colleges because once that happened in large numbers, these GMOA thugs will lose their opportunity to mint money through channel practice in private hospitals.

This won't work my dear doctor, like when you doing an operation you try to handle this issue also 'hand in glove' only issuing warnings for stern actions' and keep your medical students away from lectures. but you should get in to this yourself seriously, like tough trade union actions along with keep away from channel practice will force the government accept your demands,so go to your trade union actions along with keep away from busy channel practice,if you can.
