Some 104 chairs, each costing Rs 650,000, had been reportedly ordered from abroad for the chamber of the new Western Provincial Council building, JVP Western Provincial Councillor Lakshman Nipuna Arachchi said.

The councillor said this was revealed during the western provincial council committee meeting held on Wednesday.

In a letter to the Western Province Governor, the councillor said even though taking measure to bring all institutes of the provincial council under one roof was a good move, it is absurd that chairs for councillors would be brought at such a high price.

“As a member of the council as well as a member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), I can’t approve such a move in the council ,” he said in the letter.

He requested the governor’s special intervention to the matter and sought its suspension.(Darshana Sanjeewa)

Why can't these rascals use ordinary revolving chairs I don't think even the private sector companies will spend this amount of money to buy chairs for their boardrooms. Looks like some fellow is making big money for the next election. The CM should be answerable

Any part of the world when visiting a public office if you notice the council member of the parliamentarian sits on a comfortable chair that cost only about LKR 18,000/= that's about little over a hundred US$ anyone can be very comfortable and do nothing for those who paid for the chair. In the WONDER OF ASIA the politico's has their brain in a place where the sun won't shine ... as such they need comfort when sit on their brain.

Does the government have any intention of controlling waste. The President and Prime Minister should take action on all waste and surcharge those who approve them.
