Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake said yesterday he had met President Maithripala Sirisena to bring about a truce with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and iron out any differences between them.

He said he met the President as a peace maker. “I am a symbol of peace (Sama Kurulla) and therefore I decided to undertake this mission,” he said.

The President had told him that he was under pressure from certain groups who did not want to work with the UNP.

“I will continue with my effort in bringing the two leaders together and ensure that the President comes forward as the common candidate. I am a friend of both the President and the Prime Minister, and also of the 6.2 million people who voted for a change in January 2015,” the deputy minister said.

He was our candidate and I want to maintain that status,” he said and added that it should be understood.

Also he said that everyone should understand that a government cannot be changed through a local government election. (Yohan Perera)

Ranjan your effort to bring a truce between President and the PM is the need of the hour. Those who lost the power will try to grab the power once again by hook or crook. Hence these two people must not fall prey to them.

Correct logic and good work. While shouting for Rule of Law and against all corrupt in all parties including his, this man should be made of Metal with a angel's heart. We Sri lankans are lucky to have someone with such qualities. Probably last HU-MAN in parliament.

As far as this coalition gov. Is in power it's beneficial for MR. The present government has 'no' agenda. This government will go in history as incompetent. All have the urge and greed to stay on power .

RANJAN - You were outspoken and spoke the truth . Deliver what your govt. promised in 2015 . That is what is needed to gain confidence of the people .

    Haramanis Saturday, 17 February 2018 08:08 PM

Ranjan - the majority voted against you for the following reasons: persecution of war heros, persecution of Buddhist priests, agreeing to UN resolution admitting commission of war crimes in the terrorist war, no fertilizer, high food prices, introduction of gay marriage, no tangible development, selling of assets to India, free trade/travel agreement with India allowing indian labor to come in freely, harassment of war winning president and defence secy, general bungling of government, Bond Scam - the list is endless in just 3 years

Ranjan tell MS to throw away the SLFP Chairmanship for the common good. Anyway, the bunch that he taking care of is just a spine-less double dealing crossovers never to be led by him. Try to reach a concession with MS and RW even possible with MR, never to entertain possible crossover who looking just the personal gain and this fulfills aspiration of all the voters regardless of to whom they have voted. RW shall allow to continue the entire term while MS playing the role of the enforce of the good governance. His sward will be further strengthen with necessary law and regulations to keep the government along the proper line and punish the individual who engaged in f corruption, regardless of the party lines. Most importantly tell the both that this a local government election and nothing to do with the mandate that they received in 2015. Yet due must understand the red-light from the people and must fulfill their aspirations as agreed in January 2015.

Ranjan is the most underrated minister. He is capable of doing greater things if he is empowered. MS and RW should consider Ranjan for the Law

    dIREsTRAITS Sunday, 18 February 2018 07:37 AM

I like Ranjan. An exception to all the rules. We need to elect more of his caliber. Honest yet committed. He may have flaws and may not be a great leader YET, but, you can see him learning from the mistakes and getting better. Who knows, maybe the leader we need one day! I wish this guy best of luck.

    Makiaveli Sunday, 18 February 2018 11:08 AM

The efforts of the Honorable Minister is great. Both His Excellency and Hon. P. M. are politically mature individuals. A minority of party members and some troublemakers are making various demands and commands to the leaders. they do not understand the political or economic situation of the country. It is the responsibility of the leaders to listen to the majority idea and not the voice of the minority that yell like hell.

    Rohantha Sunday, 18 February 2018 12:47 PM

Why can't these two men (MS n RW) , sit together and identify why MS wants Ranil Out and come to a compromise solution to the benefit of the country without taking the country down the hill and paving MR return. Or MS should come out in the public n say , these are the reasons why he requires a change so every body knows what goes on.

    Lion Sunday, 18 February 2018 01:13 PM

Ranjan do every thing to stop MAHASONA coming to power. If he gets in it is certain that democracy become a history of this country and mahasona will be every where.

This guy is thinking he is acting a movie... :)

MAD DOG Sunday, 18 February 2018 03:53 PM

Ranjan, you are a great man and I have lot of respect. We all know today our country need a permanent solution post 10 Feb. At the same time I agree Ranil should give up politics sooner rather than later. Ranil is a very nice man. But today we need a strong leader to take our country forward. There should be no place for crooks who robbed our country. Please draw lines on those issues.

    Ceylon Sunday, 18 February 2018 03:59 PM

Ranjan highly corrupt and spineless man cant change by discussions.convince him to resign for a able honest person to be president.enough he destroyed the justice, democrasy and economy.

Martin Milton Sunday, 18 February 2018 04:48 PM

They say one cannot make coal White however one may try. There can be no truce here for so many reasons. They are both people with such utterly inflated egos and there seems to be a 'competition of sorts' between these two individuals as to who would blunder the most! The 'cross overs' are another untrustworthy bunch and need to be elbowed out of any future Parliament. I am sure the Sri Lankan people WILL see to that too in the near future. The problem here is the greedy power hungry leadership which drowns out any other good aspects of Governance completely. MM

    ali Sunday, 18 February 2018 07:48 PM

Ranjan,Please include in your points to request Prez to stop putting the blames and pointing fingers at others always. Do we have such a weak Prez who is bent upon others' pressure?
